2013-14 sorority year in review

by:

Someone did this last year and I thought it was a good way to show the accomplishments of each MSU sorority. I know there are tons of accomplishments for each group that I do not know about so please add them as appropriate. I hope this post will be used only to build up groups not tear any down. Also I did not post the placements for each individual competition (banner, basketball tourney, lip sync, etc) but the overall winner. If I make a mistake or omit anything please make the correction!

I would add #'s for Roadrunners, Alumni Delegates, and Maroon VIPs. These organizations show who is even more involved on campus. Obviously I don't know them so someone post for each group!

By: Great!!
by: And....

Also, Order of Omega inductees. Does anyone know the numbers?

I agree but gathering those numbers is nearly impossible. I honestly feel that most groups have extensive involvement in campus organizations.

here is an attempt to list sorority membership in some groups. The numbers may not be absolute for some groups but they should be close. These numbers include 2014 seniors.

Road Runners: DG - 12; Phi Mu - 6; Chi O - 21; KD - 12; Pi Phi - 2; ZTA - 1; Tri Delt - 1

Diamond Girls: DG - 1; Phi Mu - 5; Chi O - 7; KD 4; Tri Delt - 1

SA Senators: DG - 3; Phi Mu - 8; Chi O - 9; KD - 5

Class Officers: Phi Mu - 1, Senior; Chi O - 2, Junior, Freshman; KD - 1, Sophomore

There's no way of knowing if the poster really doesn't know the accurate numbers and was guessing or if they were intentionally putting low -or no -involvement for some groups to make their chapter look better. Either way, just ignore this. It's way off.

No, it is NOT way off ... it might be off by 1 or 2 but that's it. Anyone with a brain can look at the Roadrunners's member list on MSU's website and cross reference the names with Facebook to see what sorority they are in. New Roadrunners who were selected in February were found on sorority Twitter and Facebook pages. Senate results and class officer results can be found on the MSU Senate twitter account and again easily cross referenced with Facebook. Diamond girls was based off of Facebook and Twitter posts from sororities congratulating their members as well as the girls I know who are Diamond girls. This count is very close to accurate and nothing was made up positive or negative to make one group look better than another. I challenge you to do the same thing if you don't believe the accuracy of the post!

Wait.....your source of information was Facebook and Twitter???? Seriously??? Two thoughts come to mind:
1. You have waaaaaay too much time on your hands.
2. I hope you did better on your finals than this list. From my very casual observance (I did no "cross-referencing") I know of quite a few that were missed.

Can we stop and just say that all groups are involved and have many members that proudly represent their chapters and the Greek community?!!

Yes, I am at home and bored after exams (3.40 thank you). It's very easy to search a person on Facebook and see what sorority they are in. Yes, I may have missed a few but not many. I wasn't trying to start any controversy. Simply wanted to find out the numbers. As for using Twitter, most group did a congratulatory text for their members who were selected to different organizations. If I got something wrong with your group then correct it.

While social media can often be utilized as a source of information in linking girls with their chapters, the current disaffiliation of the Gamma Chis results in the information being much less reliable. There are certainly quite a few instances where Gamma Chis are in the above organizations and that has not been taken into account and reflected in the numbers for their respective chapters. I can assure you this is the case. We should all take pride in our wonderful and supportive Greek system, applaud those ladies involved in campus organizations and move on.
