i don’t think being honest about majors is bad.

Girls who are advertising and marketing majors simply do not have the pressure that biology and chemistry major girls have. Do you have to shadow physicians from all specialties? Do you have to volunteer for more than 1000 hours before application time? Do you have to worry about keeping a 3.8+ GPA all the time because given the competition, anything below a 3.8 will reduce your chances GREATLY. Do you have to do research with professors (and let me tell me you being a research assistant is almost like a full time job)? No, you don’t. Because those easy majors revolve around communication and how well you are good at “marketing” things. But guess what? Pre Med girls’ communication skills will have to be just as good, if not better, than yours because they will need it to get into medical school (interview is the most important part). They will need to have better communication skills to volunteer and shadow.

Don’t even insinuate that you are working harder as a philosophy major than a girl who is Pre med. Accept that you have chosen to take the easy way out. Simply get it through your head that you have chosen to prioritize Social life over education.

So, I guess you are quite content to spend all your time in the hospital and are willing to live in a storage closet? No? Then check yourself, honey. Because there are PROFESSIONALS IN THE MAKING in other majors. Will you want a nice house? Better have a good realtor and contractor. Will you want your house to look pretty? Better have a good consultant to put that place together so it doesn’t look all mish mosh (unless you plan on minoring in interiors in your spare time). How about your retirement planning? Better have a good 401 k manager. Get yourself in a bind with a potential lawsuit due to your overinflated ego being on par with your skill set? Better have a good insurance agent and lawyer and PR person helping you keep your damn license. It takes all people to make this world work. A little humility would do you some good.

We can’t be all things to all people. You can very well be on the pre health track, make great grades, get research grants, volunteer, have a job, be in the honors college, and STILL not get into a good med school. Or get into a great med school and fail out. Or get into a great med school and when you graduate, become a professor for pre-health. Some people are more adept at science than English, but someone needs to study English. Someone needs to be the teachers or professors who taught you to get you to the high horse you’re on. There’s a certain amount of challenge that comes along with life and getting a college degree, which is how you advance in your learning, but if a major is so challenging that you can’t handle the work required of it, it’s not the right major for you. If that’s what you need to do and you can’t do it, don’t. Pick an “easier” major. And when you realize you struggle with memorizing scripts and writing page upon page of character analyses and staying up all night striking for shows because you’re a science person not a theatre person, you’ll realize nothing worth doing is “easy,” but the hard work WE ALL DO is worth it if we want it.

You are wasting your time thinking about marketing majors. If your life in pre med is as hard and stressful as you say it is, how do you have room to worry what people in other majors are doing? Check yourself, focus on your own life, and let others do the same.
