which chapters will drop if you don't have rec letter
by: smileygal1Which chapters will automatically drop you if you don't have a rec letter for them? How important are they? I reached out to my local alumni group in early April and only received a response for 5 chapters. I filled out self-rec forms for tri-delt and KD. Do those do anything? I am still going to try to get the other chapters, but it's getting down to the wire!

It is YOUR responsibility to get recs, not the local Panhellenic. What else have you done to get recs? Have you asked every teacher / coach / advisor if they were ina sorority? How about women from church or volunteer work or part time jobs? Your neighbors? Your friends’ moms & grandmas? Your mom & grandma’s friends?
Membership selection is private so while some chapters here do have national policies of “must have rec on file to pledge”, you aren’t going to get a list. The ones I know of with national policies range from most competitive to mid/lower competitive rushes. Other competitive houses will cut PNM’s with no recs simply because they have to cut A TON of PNM’s quickly.

i don’t know enough about other chapters rec letters but that last response was rude. i don’t think it’s fair to assume pnms have woman in their life who attended college, let alone joined a sorority. i know i didn’t have anyone in my life who was in a sorority. get the recs you can but remember if you go through the process you are guaranteed a house so you are gonna find a home no matter what. don’t stress! (also get off this website it sucks)

No I know it’s my responsibility, but everyone says the alumni associations are the best thing to do if you don’t know many people who have been in sororities. I am from a super small town where few people even go to college let alone rush. I am getting a rec from the only teacher in my entire school district who was in a sorority.
