sorority questions
by: Barrie girlHello, I'm going to be attending Ottawa u in the fall and have a few questions and am not sure where to ask them. First of all, I'm a big Legally Blonde fan (majoring in law!) and am looking for that kind of experience with frat parties and hopefully living in a house with my sisters and gossiping and all that :) I've done a lot of searching on google and I see there's a sorority that's on this website that isn't on the Ottawa u clubs website, alpha phi? Do they not exist anymore? Anyways, I heard from my sister who goes to western that sororities there don't even drink alcohol, they aren't allowed. Is this true? That's kind of a bummer. I'm not an alchy or anything but part of university is having fun right!

No sorority is going to not give you a bid if they like you just because you went to another sororities events, the whole point of rush is to see which organization is the best for you! However, obviously it looks good if you go to a lot of one sorority's events because it shows you're interested in them- but Xi Delt & Nu Sig or anyone else doesn't not take you if they like you

So excited to here you've chosen uOttawa and are hoping to join Greek life!! I'm sure you'll love the school and joining a sorority :) To answer your questions, I really wouldn't recommend going with any of the local sororities here at Ottawa U unless they say they have concrete plans to move into international status within the next year or two. Honestly, you just won't get the same experience you would from a national sorority and outside of Ottawa, no one even considers those sororities to be real sororities. Especially considering what you're looking for I would recommend rushing Delta Delta Delta. They are the most well-rounded sorority at Ottawa U and have been around for the longest. They have a strong alumni base and are by far the sweetest and most well liked sorority on campus while Alpha Phi derived from a local sorority and are known to be very fake shallow girls who recruit only white girls and only based on looks. Delta Delta Delta has a fraternity sweetheart this year and always get their first choice of girls so I would definitely recommend rushing the most desired house on campus :) good luck! If I went to Ottawa U they would've totally been my only choice!

I'm sorry tridelt did you just calk yourself "sweet" or well liked or well rounded? You're none of those things don't lie! And no you're not the most desired house on campus. Either way they'll find out when they rush!

Thank you International from CU but Delta Delta Delta doesn't look too much like my style, I don't think I would fit in but thank you for the info. I am a little stressed now that you mention some sororities might discriminate if you go to more than one sorority's events - I'm really interest in xi delta theta and alpha phi. Can you guys tell me the differences between the two, I don't want to jeopardize my chance in a sorority because of their rule :( visiting other sorority houses sounds like fun i looked at some of alpha phi's houses in the states and omg! As if people get to live like that 😍😍

I joined a local sorority & it has been amazing!! When I compare our organization to international's we still do all the same events, and embody everything a sorority is all about! That being said if you wanted to go international go Alpha Phi because they're also great girls!

As we can see, local or international, female or male, no one likes tridelt. They don't even like each other

As you can see, all APhi does is obsess over Greekrank. I'm in a Carleton sorority and think Tridelts are sweethearts. They're genuine girls who have a strong sisterhood.

Honestly, I would recommend looking up each sorority at uOttawa and figuring out for yourself which you may want to rush. The sororities on UO Greek Council are Alpha Phi, Delta Delta Delta, Xi Delta Theta, Zeta Theta Xi, Omega Phi Sigma, Nu Sigma Pi, Theta Sigma Psi and Sigma Beta Phi.
APhi and TriDelt are the only two internationals, as you've already been told. Theta is the only local who was founded specifically to become an international one day. Nu Sig and Xi Delt are allegedly trying to become international but they have to deal with their alumni so it may not happen for them in the near future.
Look up everyone's social media, maybe message their recruitment chairs if you have any questions, then go into rush with an open mind.

If you're looking for the stereotypical sorority experience, Alpha Phi is probably the one for you! It gives you the benefits of international connections - this means big conferences and meeting APhi girls from the States in the summer, more programming and events, etc. And many APhi girls are into dance/cheerleading.
However, honestly the best option is to rush multiple and see who you vibe with :)
