difference between colony and fraternity

by: Curious

Is there a difference between colonies like beta and philam and other regular houses? Are they allowed to have social events and stuff because I haven't heard much about them and no one ever mentions them in the rankings. Are they the same as other fraternities on campus?

It depends upon the Nationals too. most Nationals don't provide their colonies with houses like Pilam and Sig Tau. These two are also not allowed blocks and major social events. But some like Beta and phi tau are provided houses and are allowed everything

Just to be clear though, if nationals wasn't a factor pilam and sigtau wouldn't be getting block for a VERY long time, thats saying if they do at all.

Sig tau was provided a house on chalmers, idk what happened to that but they did have a house for a few semesters.

"Allowed everything" isn't really an accurate statement either. Betas nationals is very strict on what they can do an has come down several times to impose sanctions on them.

Beta isn't mentioned anywhere in the rankings? What are you looking at, everyone usually puts them at middle-tier already based off of the fact they have block, a full social calendar and bar pull, plus a dope house. Check again, they're probably the fastest rising house on campus right now and unless they screw it up somehow it'll probably continue for a while
