richest alumni ?
by: sittinplush
I've heard from a few old-timers (uncles & aunties etc.) that Phi Delts, Sigma Chi and Sigma Nu have the wealthiest alumni. Not just "dentist rich" but several truly loaded industrial giants and billionaire entrepreneurs.
What is it about the DNA of these houses that perpetuates this?

Every once in a while some jackass comes on here talking about how SN is so powerful. First of all, every house on campus has some prominent alumni - this is UofI after all. One of the richest men in America was in Alpha Sigs (Marc Andreesen), for example. I am not an Alpha Sig, but hey that's a fact. Beta has Shahid Khan, multibillionaire who actually lives in Urbana.
SN is not one of the wealthiest houses, not even close, so can we give that a rest? I would probably say ATO, Delts, Sigs, maybe Betas. And every house can point to at least some wealthy and prominent people.
What matters most is alumni support.
By the way, ATO and SN houses are not century-old. They were built in the mid-1930's, I believe. Not sure about the age of the other houses you mentioned.

Illinois ATO alumni seem to gravitate toward sales jobs (insurance, automobile, pharmaceutical, printers/copiers).....and bank VP's (not presidents).......
Basically, careers that rely upon lots of "backslapping" and little real decision making or genius akin to leading organizations, practicing medicine or exploring for oil.......
It's always been this way for Illinois ATO's and probably will always be..........
