Greek life here has definitely taken a hit from nationals and student conduct, not what it used to be, not dead yet
VT has great potential to have an awesome greek life scene, but IFC is too strict to let that happen. Plenty of sorority and fraternity options for everyone to get involved in.
greek life is getting super strict
vt is cracking down on greek life hazing, its already starting to die
rip sae, lambda, sig chi
The thing I love about Greek life at Tech is all the options. Like social frats/sororities are great, if that's not for you there is service and professional sororities as well, as well as a multitude of co-ed groups that do everything from service, to professional to leadership. Even the co-ed groups have philanthropies and date parties and stuff, so there is a place for everyone. I know Tech (*cough* student conduct) is trying to kill greek life little by little with all these kick-offs, suspensions, and probation, but we as the students love greek life and love being involved.
Vt doesnt like greeklife they are kicking people out
I know a ton of people from all years including faculty that are involved with the greek life on campus. There is a multitude of Greek life organizations with different purposes and philanthropies. I think our Greek life community is very diverse in many aspects like age, race, creed, disability, and sexual orientation. I'm lucky to have met a lot of people in many frats and srats, mostly panhellenic. The panhellenic organizations are getting a lot more regulated, unfortunately, but the people are staying great. There are a lot of other non-panhellenic options like academic frats, co-ed frats/srats, African-American/other race or Jewish/religious frats/srats, and service frats/srats. I've had a great experience with networking in and out of the social frat area and I have been surrounded by ambitious and hardworking people. Greek life at VT has done a great job of preparing me for the real world.
Greek life is experiencing trouble with the IFC and pan-hell cracking down on so many rules. Nothing wrong with that since it is their job but there is obvious favoritism towards certain organizations compared to others so it seems like justice is not being given to everyone equally. There is also no representation or support of the cultural organizations. Certain members of the community have agendas and are willing to look away at their own organizations which is unfair and there is no system in place to question them.
GREEK life is awesome because their is an organization that every person capable of socializing will fit in at. If you're sporty or nerdy and whatever the hobbies, there are people in organizations that you'll bond with.People just get too tied up in their own insecurities to appreciate all the great things about going GREEK.
