more sophomore or juniors?

by: Curious

I think I've heard that houses actually need more juniors than they need sophomores. Is this true? So essentially juniors have a better chance of getting into a decent house than sophomores?

Yea. It's common for female juniors who joined as freshman to drop out by their junior year. Most often the girls who still live in and are members their senior year are the girls who have been elected for positions, ect. You can tell the quality of a house's sisterhood by figuring out how many seniors they have.

Additionally, I'm fairly certain most houses will have a "junior quota" they need to meet each year, probably because of transfer students and whatnot

freshmen got it easy. but both sophomores and juniors have it way harder. and the "junior quota" thing only applies to a few houses...most of which the quota has already been reached so they won't even be looking for any.

Sort of along the same lines as OP...

Do houses look at your age at all, or only your year in school? I have freshman standing but am the age of a junior, so are my options as good as any other freshman, or are they more limited to those of a sophomore or junior?

They will be looking at how many years you will be a student at Cal. It also depends on the makeup of the active members.
You are guaranteed a house as long as you go thru the whole recruitment process.
If you are a better fit for a house than a younger girl, you will probably get a bid over her. Even if it means one more junior than really allowed.
