You'd be a fool to expect the traditional Greek life experience from UCR. There are city-wide laws against Greek housing AKA no possibility of a Greek row ever happening at UCR. We do not have a sports stadium because the school spends their money on research instead of a superfluous, multi-million dollar status symbol (as an academic institution should.) The entire University of California system is a research institution first and foremost, not a booster seat for athletic programs or social Greek letter societies.\n\n\n\n\nTho se who hold UCR Greek life to the same standard as other, older schools are kidding themselves in a big way. If you want the opportunity to make more friends and lifelong membership in a secret society, UCR Greek life will give you that. You'll have to work for anything else.
PUJA JAIN EATS BEEF
Alright guys. I visited from UCB, took a look at the Greek Life at UCR, and I’m sorry to break it to y’all but it’s a joke.
Shouldn’t even be called Greek Life.
For starters, there’s no Greek Row or houses. This is your major issue. If this was fixed there would be a chance for y’all.
Second, there is no stadium, football team, or game days. You guys should petition for a stadium or something, you have no idea how much it transforms party life and, if I’m being real, school spirit as a whole.
But the reason why this will never happen leads into my third reason
You guys just don’t seem to care enough.
From the fraternity I visited, (this is considered one of the higher up ones according to people), it honestly seems like you guys use Greek life as a status symbol more than anything else. There’s no love for Greek life besides the status it gives y’all. It’s different at bigger campuses, because people care about more than just the partying.
But I guess this mentality represents UCR as a whole. People go here for the status of a UC, but didn’t try hard enough to get into a real one.
I hope the hazing isn’t bad here because you’re better off not rushing and transferring after a year or two.
Honest perspective. UCR has potential but it needs to get kicked into shape.
FIJI made me get three abortions
Like high school all over again, people join Greek just so they can feel a part of something bigger than themselves. In reality it’s a huge waste of money and time. UCR is a prestigious school and most people who join Greek forget that and miss out on tons of opportunities for professional growth.
There's not a lot of things to do in ucr aside from the school concerts and raves to go to. Greek life here is pretty much the only way to be involved and stay active on campus.
Being in the middle of nowhere and with strict housing laws in Riverside county, Greek life here is partially underground in that everyone gets sat. houses. There are hotter people at other schools, ragers at other schools are better, and there's no tailgating. Below average for Greek life, however, very unique as well.
