recs
by: ExperienxedI've seen a lot of you ask about rec letters and importance. Let me break it down: at a school like OSU, most girls don't have any recs unless they are legacies then they will have one to their legacy house. And most will still end up having a successful rush. They can normally only help though if you know it will be a positive rec. the only time we really look at them though is if you are on the fence of getting cut or not. If you made a really good impression, you will move on regardless of if there is a rec or not. If you made a bad impression, you will get cut whether you have a red or not. If you made a somewhat positive impression, but not so much that we know for sure we want to see you again but we have more spots available for the next round, here is when your rec could help you move on. Also keep in mind that top chapters get more girls with recs going through than middle and bottom chapters, so don't get mad at whoever wrote your rec if you don't get called back. all in all, Recs only help with the first round of cuts, they help you get a second chance sometimes. After that though, it's up to you.

If a house either really likes you or doesn't it won't make a difference. If a house kinda likes you is where it could help the most. Most houses cut the heaviest on the first two days- second day for legacies and first day for everyone else. For example, based on return rates, say there were 1000 girls rushing. Pi phi, DG, aphi, and theta will probably cut to 500. KD and chi o will cut to 600. DDD and AGD would cut to 700. Fuzzie, a chi o, and gamma phi might cut to 800. Aopi and DZ would cut to 900. So it is easier to get called back to so called lower houses so it may help you have recs, but if the top tier girls didn't love you anyway you're kinda screwed whether you have recs or not.

Gamma Phi will not be able to cut as much as Fuzzy and Alpha Chi because return rates are based on the prior three years and has nothing to do with last year alone. Sooooooooo...they will only be able to cut about as much as AOPi. I want to make sure PNMs understand this because you get girls who keep saying, "I don't know why Gamma Phi keeps asking me back when I cut them". Well, they may have wanted to cut you but they can't.

Hahaha silly PNMs, they think they cut houses. In reality we cut you. The only way you "cut" houses, is if every house on your list invites you back, then your bottoms are dropped. But that is extremely rare, like maybe 5% of girls rushing this actually occurs. Everyone else expect to be called back to some houses you "don't want" after the ones you were interested in dropped you but you have room on your schedule

This is true, because new chapters obviously don't have the data from the past 3 years. The you can definitely see the difference between AOPi and Gamma Phi though .

Every bit helps, but with your attitude, you're going to be disappointed. There are way too many quality PNMs going through for letters of rec to matter a lot. Some legacies even get cut, especially from top houses.
