houses

by: Help

Is it true that sororities will google your address to find out your home value? This makes me nervous because I live in a modest house but it's only because I'm an only child so we don't need a lot of space. My dad has a good job though so idk how you'd determine that from a home value?

I've heard these rumors before too but also note there's other ways to show you have money. I have a pretty small house compared to most of my sisters but I also went to a well known private high school in an upper middle class suburb.

Most top chapters care about 3 things: looks, money, and grades (kind of). KKG used to ask questions (somewhat veiled) to figure out how much your parents make.

Oh good grief. How pathetic!

No, jesus that's ridiculous (well maybe a couple girls do it, but to do it for everyone is more time than we care to spend on you). Yes, I might make assumptions based on what school you went to or what area you come from regarding your financial status, but nothing so crazy as to stalk you all like that.

That being said, Kappa was notorious for asking what your parents did, your favorite clothing brands, etc. to estimate your worth. That's ridiculous. In general, we just care about if you can pay your dues (we don't want dropouts for financial reasons) not if you have 3 vacation homes or whatever.

It doesn't matter. Maybe if you were right on the fence of being cut or not it might come into play, but there are many much more important factors

A lot of girls in all sororities work to pay their dues, and as long as you can pay your dues and don't look homeless, we don't really care about your financial situation.

OSU is not the old south. For the most part no one cares about your private school or what your parents do. That being said, if you come from a very working class background you may have some trouble feeling comfortable because going out often, having the clothes that everyone wears and going on trips with your chapter isn't exactly cheap either.

Keep in mind though that girls who pay their dues themselves tend to have all their other college expenses paid for by their parents. If you are already paying a huge chunk or all of your tuition/room/board/meal plan/ books/etc. it may be hard for you to cover dues too, unless you are willing to take out a loan. If you think you would take out a loan please consider strongly before rushing. Sororities hate having girls drop out because they decide they don't want to go through with taking out a loan
