I went through recruitment and genuinely thought these girls were so real. It was easy to have conversations with some, even thought others maybe not. Everyone is so different, which is nice to have many different groups to join. I did join a different sorority on campus, but considered AOII to be close to the top of my rankings.

NEW ON GREEKRANK

I went through the most recent recruitment (2020) and went back to AOII a few times. The girls had more interesting and get-to-know-you conversations than any of the other chapters. I loved that they showed a genuine interest beyond what my major was and what my favorite thing to do with friends is. The only reason the chapter is small is because of shoddy leadership a few years back. The girls have since worked past all those issues and are on a come up. Take this chapter seriously during recruitment because it would be a great home to end up in! Also their rooms are very cool— they have lofted beds that are on a second level, it’s pretty sweet.

Everyone is still worried about their reputation from like 5 years ago. Currently, the girls in this chapter have gotten more petite, prettier, and are not weird anymore. I don’t understand the hate that they get all the time, but I think everyone should have an open mind like you do for any other chapter.

As someone who graduated from AOII, I’ll tell you that it was some of the most stressful years of my life. There aren’t enough girls so you get fined for EVERYTHING. It’s also very split into cliques. If one girl hates a girl, then none of her friends like her and it makes for very toxic air. I’ve also seen major discrimination against people with illnesses and they won’t understand at all if you miss anything. If AOII isn’t your first priority then this isn’t the chapter for you.

I'm also an AOII graduate. This was the total opposite of my experience. I never once was fined. There are a few cliques, but that's every sorority. There was only one time that I was ever aware of any drama in the chapter. Everyone was totally understanding of my illness.

I am also a recent AOII alum. My time in the chapter was great! I didn’t experience any drama or adversity in the chapter. I am grateful for the life long friends I’ve made and how the strong sisterhood I experienced helped me through college.

Let’s talk because I feel like we need to talk. After this recruitment process, I feel as a PNM that we need to give AOII a chance. I did not end up here. However, I can speak to their resilience, their drive to recruit real and diverse women, their attitude. They were built on diversity. They do better with real one on one conversations than they do with “oh what’s your major, your favorite ~Starbucks order~” surface crap. I truly believe that we as PNMs need to give them a chance. We need to go in there with an open mind. We need to stop basing our judgement on prejudices from 5-7 years ago when they arguably WERE a hot mess. Just because you did not vibe with them does not mean they are bad. That’s the first thing you all need to fix with your mindset. When you set that precedent on others they build off of that and could be potentially losing out on their real home. When you talk about them, you say: “they weren’t for me.” They really tried their hardest and the effort was seen at least from me. So please, for the love of Pete, stop with this discriminating viewpoint of them and give them a chance as a sorority within PHA. They deserve our consideration and open minds and our approval as a community of Greek Life. They deserve it. I have nothing but respect for the way they recruit real, diverse, unique women and give them a home.

You have to be at the "right" table in order to have a good time. People will gossip about you if you're not. Part of your membership will involve recruiting all year round when that other time can be used for studying or doing something else.
