practical advice on recruitment/joining a sorority

by:

This is what you need to understand, PNM's, and, if followed, will lead to your success:
•Go with your gut. This is, by far, the most important thing to remember. You will meet members at all the houses and will pick up on a feeling, a vibe, a connection (or not). Listen to this! What is the best for one person will be a disaster for another. Your heart knows best.
•Remember that you are joining a SISTERHOOD, not an honor society or campus organization that will gain you some kind of prestige. Sorority membership is not another notch on your resume of accomplishments. It is purely social – a place where you will feel at home, find your people, and have a refuge while you are at this really tough school.
•At Tech, you will not be defined or judged by your letters. That happens, falsely and questionably, on this site, and only on this site. You need to worry about your own reputation. Cute, sweet, fun – these traits are the key to your social life here and if you have all three you will be admired and welcomed anywhere. Membership in a particular sorority will not give or take away these qualities.
•The sororities are also choosing you. It may not work out for you at a particular house and you will be released. Please don’t let it get you down and force an emotional decision that you will regret. Give your other choices a chance.

This is so good! Don't join a house just because you think they're the "top", go where you feel at home, because if you aren't comfortable during rush, you probably won't be comfortable the rest of your years as a member. We want girls who will be involved members, not just the girls who show up for only the mandatory and/or decide to drop because they picked the wrong house during rush and hate their lives. Please also understand it is a commitment, there are requirements, it can get a little overwhelming sometimes, but membership is for a lifetime. Don't join just to drop 2 weeks later. There's so much sorority membership and alumnae connections can offer you. And like above said, even if you get cut by one of your "favorites", maybe it's not the best fit for you. Trust the system, it works. And the houses that are inviting you back? Those houses want you!

Your BEST FIT house will make you fall in love and mean more to you than anything during your time at Tech.

This is better advice than all the desperate, immature crap about tiers.

Listen to this. The tiers BS fades away pretty quick. Only a few people actually care about it; the majority of sorority women here are not that shallow!

I wanted to add that a lot of girls get released from houses, especially early in the week. It is normal. Do not drop out of recruitment (even if you are initially disappointed) until after preference night. Getting released is nothing personal, they just thought that you would be happier somewhere else. Give EVERY house a fair chance. If they are inviting you back, then they want you to be their sister!

We have a recruitment process for a reason - so you can meet us! In person! And see us, and talk with us! And we can do the same with you. What if we evaluated you solely based on your photo and application, and relied on what other people thought about you and how they "ranked" your looks and your "reputation" and what your social media is like - without ever meeting you in person? We don't do that because we care about who YOU really are! It doesn't work for you to choose a sorority that way either. That's why we have RECRUITMENT!

Read this and believe it. There are insecure girls (or their moms) who can't help themselves. They just have to come on here and and rank the sororities in tiers, pumping up their chapter and speaking negatively of those groups they feel most threatened by. They plan, they strategize, they have an agenda. They post and then they comment on it. Repeatedly. Please ignore these posts. They are insulting - to both your intelligence and our Panhellenic system in general. At best, these comments are completely subjective and at worst they are completely false.
