rush details

by: transfer

I'm going to be transferring in as a sophomore from an SEC school, and was wondering if anyone can give me a (somewhat) detailed explanation on how rush works here. At my current school, rush is informal, and most pledge classes are filled or almost full by the end of summer leading into the Fall semester.

Not that it should matter, but finances determined where my initial college choices. After my first year, I determined I wanted/needed a change, and had put in the hard work to make it.

Duke sororities and fraternities do formal rush in January. A few will do informal rush in the fall, but these are generally the "lower-ranked" sororities and frats, but if you're just looking for friends, that doesn't really matter. For boys, you start out at an open house and hopefully get invited back to various rounds which are mostly events such as parties, but also dinners, basketball games, etc. This takes place over a 2 and a half week period, and at the end you can get any number of bids, and then you choose one.
Girls rush is much more formal, and you are guaranteed a bid. It takes place over two weekends. You will visit all 10 sororities, then get invited back to a maximum of 8, then 6, then 3. You rank your last three in order of preference, and the chapters rank you. The computer matches the lists to give you a bid. If you receive a bid and choose not to accept it, you cannot rush again for another year. If you do not receive a bid (IE if you only rank 2/3 chapters, or 1/2), or if you drop out of rush early, you're still eligible for informal rush.

Greek life here is a joke compared to the SEC. Still alright but don't be surprised if it's kinda lame compared to what you're used to
