that has happened to me. Not being allowed to recruit and do other things that other sisters can do and I especially pay for is so insulting. There’s no “support” or “sisterhood” once those decisions are made, and there’s a lot of things happening like this behind the scenes that need to be discussed and dealt with more.

As a recent alum of one of the chapters, I saw women in my chapter not being allowed to recruit and being left upstairs all day. I couldn't imagine having to get up before the sun to do a full face of hair and makeup just to be told that I wasn't picked to recruit. It caused so many people to drop; it was devastating. On top of that, my sorority had no known reason for choosing who would be on the background team for recruitment (aka the team who picks up lunch for the recruiters, gets stuff ready for bid day, makes the props for future rounds, etc.) so it left a lot of girls extremely upset when they found out over the summer that they weren't even going to get the opportunity to recruit.

see these are genuine things that need to be talked about more instead of the same tier lists and rankings all over this site. Stuff like this should not be happening, but it happens in every single house, no matter “top” or “bottom”. Sororities have lost the true meaning of their establishment and now are just a competition of who can get the most sought after Instagram theme and followers, who can get the most members in their newest pc, who can get paired with the best sorority/frat for homecoming, etc. It’s all a popularity contest and girls are gonna be told no for recruiting, being a big, getting a position, being posted on Instagram, etc., just for the “best interest of the chapter.” Unless you’re in good standing with most of the chapter and exec and are popular, you’re gonna be pushed aside. No wonder a lot of chapters are having retention and drop issues, just look how they’re treating their “sisters”, it’s terrible.

nah that’s not what you should be taking away from these posts. Pointing out the good and the bad is how chapters can learn how to fix certain issues and grow for the better. Not every girl going through rush is going to have a great experience, and at the end of the day there should be a sisterhood for everyone. Everyone knows that not everyone in a chapter is going to get along and that they throw great events and raise money for good causes, that’s obvious. But if people are being left out and treated badly and pnms are noticing and picking up on things, then that should be looked at. If there’s this much negativity then maybe you should do some self reflection as to why girls are experiencing these things. Not everything can be simply excused

I didn't call anyone out by name on purpose. This just not what it is all about. How would you like to be told you have to but a certain dress at a certain length and told the one you had is the wrong color and then going and getting another one ... only to sit upstairs and never even put it on! This is supposed to be a sisterhood. At least recognize it and apologize or provide a reason people don't get to participate. Greek life has 100% become a popularity contest and a money game. Sororities take people they don't like to pay their bills and then ignore them. SAD! Greek life will disappear if it doesn't change.

Look I’m totally against making anyone feel excluded but you seriously do not understand that while sororities are social groups they are also businesses too. No one should feel bad however not everyone has the same talents and that’s ok. Stop taking this so personally and take advantage of the opportunities you ARE given. It’s not personal no matter how much you think it is…
