Bama Rush Book - thoughts after reading

by: Doing the Lord's work

I took one for the team and read the Rush This book on Amazon, and here are my thoughts:

1. The book is a much more positive take on sororities and sisterhood than you usually see, though any Nationals would probably be pissed about the amount of drinking in the book.

2. I do actually believe the author was/is in a sorority.

3. I do not actually believe she was in one at Bama. But maybe Georgia or Auburn or Ole Miss? If you went to one of those schools, I’d be curious to know your thoughts. (The book is set at a fictional school in Alabama that is meant to seem like Bama.)

4. The sororities’ names are changed too, and the description says, “Have fun trying to figure out who’s who,” and I’m like 99% sure Sigma Xi is Alpha Phi

5. If you liked watching RushTok, you’d probably like the book, especially the first third. I liked the first third better than the rest – it was the part that took place during Rush week and right after. It shows what going through Rush is actually like and what it feels like as a PNM to make hard choices and have different feelings about houses than what your friends think. I really appreciated that the four main girls in the book liked different houses and with different reasons. In that way, I could potentially see it being useful for PNMs if they’re feeling nervous and just want to get an idea of what things are like.

6. That being said, it’s not a 5-star book. More like a 3-star. Or if I was just rating the first third, a 4-star. I did really like how the first third had Rush video transcripts and ootds and PNM Bestie (like PNM Companion) rankings for each of the girls.
