Gpa Requirement

by: PNM

How truthful are the house minimum GPAs? A lot of people keep saying old row is a 3.8 but for example alpha chis minimum on Panhellenic says it’s a 3.4?
I only ask because AXO and XO are my top houses and I meet their gpa requirements and I have a pretty good resume but I’m scared since my GPA isn’t a 3.8 I’ll get dropped. I’m rushing as a sophomore btw. Thank you in advance!

To be honest you will more than likely be dropped by those two. Be open minded or don’t bother going through rush and wasting your time.

i know at least one of these houses uses a rubric to pre assess PNMs - it’s an overall score so if your gpa is lower (but past the cutoff point) it can be made up for by heavy involvement, letters of rec, legacy status, etc. They more than likely hard cut all the girls with below the cut offs (maybe exceptions for legacies or girls who are STELLAR everywhere else) but there’s still a chance once you’re past that. An axo who rushed last year posted her resume and she had like a 3.698 or something. You may get cut by these houses anyways but regardless you will be fine

Your college GPA is 3.4? The GPA you see on the Panhel website refers to high school. I haven’t been through rush as an active yet, so not sure it’s the same standard for college gpa.

That is an excellent point. College GPA's tend to be lower than high school, and while both AXO and XO average a chapter GPA of above 3.7, it also depends on your major. You can't compare an engineering major's GPA to a communications major's GPA. And if the OP has been here a year and knows members in those houses personally who will pull for her, that is a huge help.

Lots of girls that AXO and XO rush have less than a 3.8!! Don’t worry!

For houses that aren’t labeled as “looks house” do looks matter? Like if you have a GPA over 3.8, houses will want you more than a very pretty girl with say a 3.4?

What do you consider 'very pretty'? Overdone makeup, hair, nails, tan is not considered 'very pretty' in the least at houses where more natural beauty and understated taste are appreciated, which are the high GPA houses.

My best friend and I went thru as sophomores. I had a 3.45, she had a 4.0. I was cut by AXO for second round, she was not. She was cut by a majority of OR for sisterhood, I was cut by a majority of NR. Every house has a different girl recruiting you and if you’re a favorite of that girl (or her group), that will be a big deciding factor. We are still besties in different houses and we go to each others date parties if we don’t have a date and have a great time! Enjoy the process and find your people.
