What’s it like being on a sorority’s exec ?

by: Pnm

How hard is it to get involved within your sorority’s leadership? What’re the different teams you can be part of and what’re their responsibilities ? I’m particularly interested in philanthropy related stuff :)

It depends on you and your commitment during your new member period and of course who you do know. Go on straight forward, try to talk to your VP of membership etc talk to alumnae who are very involved.
for OR it all depends on tradition and relation and if the older girls like your
for NR it depends on your endurance, personality and likability.

There are major and minor officers and the major ones are the Exec: President and then all the VP's - Standards (in mine this office is the 1st VP and would sub for president if needed), Treasurer, New Member Education, Recruitment, Social, Operations (house and meal plan), Marketing/PR (lots of social media so if you are artsy/designy this is a good one), Recording Secretary. All of these officers are at least juniors with maybe a few seniors. Each has a small committee that helps them but the committee members are not part of Exec. These committee members are sophomores and juniors who then often run for an Exec position after proving themselves. Elections are in spring so if you serve your sophomore year you would be elected as a freshman, which is why it's important to make an impression from the start. The minor offices are given the designation of Chair and can also lead to an Exec position, filled by mostly sophomores with a few juniors: Risk Management, Academics, Philanthropy (also has a committee and is the biggest 'minor' office), Corresponding Secretary, Alumnae, Sisterhood, Intramural, Ritual, Historian, and Panhellenic Delegate. I may have forgotten one or two. All sororities have this basic structure with different tweaks or names for things or how they structure which office handles what, like some call it Fundraising instead of Philanthropy and in some chapters it is an exec position. But if you want to get involved you just ask the person in charge "how can I help" and you show up and get it done and be seen doing a good job and that will get you noticed. Hope this helps.
