fraternity legacy

by: Anon

I'll be attending Alabama this next fall as a freshman. Do legacies matter at all when it comes to fraternities?

No. Fraternities do not keep records. However, if you wear the fraternity's block letters on a jersey shirt to that particular house and show a picture of your Dad in the shirt, that might work. No guarantee.

Hey - have your dad/brother who is a member of that fraternity contact the rush chair to introduce you. Would not hurt for you to reach out either. Good luck and Roll Tide.

Fraternities are not subject to all the rules that Sororities are such as permissible contact and quotas. Each Fraternity decides how many pledges it wants to take on each year and many have their pledge classes filled before school even starts. There are also no rules that legacies get bids, however being a legacy helps get you on the rush list and noticed early on.

As it was suggested previously, have your relative reach out to the chapter rush chairman so you can get invites to rush events. The Fraternity national may also have a rushee recommendation form that an alum can use as well. If you are a direct legacy of the chapter you are probably already known to them, but if your relative is from someone other chapter they probably haven't heard of you.
