by: Pledging

Where do top girls from Birmingham, Montgomery, Huntsville, tuscaloosa and mobile tend to pledge?

Bham meant to include Non MB.

Who seems to get the top OOS pnms overall? How do the find them.

Sorry so many questions

Well I would say over last few years:

Montgomery - lots of KD legacies, but not too many pledge lately. Seem to be a lot in Chi O and kappa has some. Alpha chi gets some and a few ddd. Some aopi as well.

Tuscaloosa- lots of kd legacies, get some but not all. Lots of alpha chi legacies, get most. Lots of chi o legacies, get most. I would say Tuscaloosa goes between these 3 pretty exclusively.

Birmingham- well MB trends kappa, kd and some agd. Those are usually legacies. Few go elsewhere but occasionally there's a trend breaker. Top OTM girls Go pm,axo, and sometimes Agd. Bham is a strange place with girls following trends and very much pressure. It's hard to be a pnm from bham bc you are expected to tie the line.

Huntsville- very top overall girls have gone alpha chi over last years with some very very good ones in Pm. Kd kinda hit or miss. Kappa same. Chi o has a few good hsv girls but not many lately . Agd had some good years but not good pc 16 from Hsv. Adpi got some cute hsv girls last year.

Mobile-- lots of kappas. These are the old money kappas and mobile also trends kd and some ddd. Surrounding areas of fairhope and daphne often have girls in axo, pm and Agd. Mobile is most definitely a kappa stronghold.

Out of state- great girls go pi phi, phi Mu, dg, zeta, axo, aopi, theta, kappa. Many are known before and many found in rush.
Girls with famous parents connections have no problems.

That's my take. Maybe wrong. Idk. Always exceptions

Over the mountain

Stands for "over the mountain" which refers to suburbs in BHM that are south of the downtown/south side. It usually refers to mb, homewood, most of Hoover, vestavia, and Inverness/oak mountain areas. The Summit shopping area in BHM is smack in the middle of OTM country.

Suburbs of BHM not considered OTM are places like Gardendale Trussville Chelsea alabaster Pelham. Those are great places just not called OTM

Even those OTM has several different high schools, the top girls from those schools all seem to know each other already. Mb does not mix across schools as much.

Montgomery girls tend to be more free thinking than you would imagine. I think they, Tuscaloosa and Huntsville are much more open than MB and mobile. OTM bham is also open minded.

New row gets some instate but mainly great girls from OOS. I know that adpi got lots of instate girls last year though from smaller towns.

Would love to hear about instate girls at NR too.

OTM other than mb is wide open this year. Look for some new patterns to emerge!

How about places like the shoals and Decatur? Does OR care about them ?

By: How about
by: .Jul 21, 2017 4:13:33 AM

OR cares about girls from all over in-state. The Shoals have been an AGD/PM stronghold for a while. Decatur girls are scattered around but almost exclusively old row.

Yes, PM has strong ties in Decatur and Florence

Decatur High top girls go Old Row - AXO (lots), AGD, KD, XO (partiers), one or two DDD, every once in a great while KKG, and PM for the top but slightly less academically inclined. Decatur Heritage may go old row or just not go out for rush at all. Austin - new row, mostly.

Florence area girls would rather die that pledge something besides old row.

Interesting that you even mention those two cities. They're pretty backwater.

The Shoals as a whole is actually pretty diverse. Know of several that go upper new row, but Florence is strictly old row and has been for awhile.

This is accurate if you are talking about top pnms overall and being well liked by all. Some exceptions and some people think getting a name is more important than that person actually being wanted for themselves . Or they think they got a top girl bc she's the richest or most beautiful etc. but not bc she's great all round. Perspective I suppose. Sororities want different things.

Ddd is more likeable than kd and agd for sure if you are looking at personalities of pc 16. There are some real dingbats in ddd, but not too many. The problem is that ddd doesn't do much of anything so they are going more and more out of state. They get some instate Huntsville and mobile. Maybe some legacies from other cities. So to answer the above, ddd is not as strong in state as it once was but still a very good chapter.

Good stuff on ddd. I have noticed this year they may be trying a little harder for in state than year before.

@ddd, what do you mean when you say "they still don't do anything"? Like they just take what they get but don't work for what they want?

@pnm

not the person you're responding to but DDD keeps a very low profile. not super involved in anything, not a big presence on campus, not into greek week/derby days/etc. they are great girls but known for being very "chill" and flying under the radar.

It makes me sad to see girls pledge certain houses based on where they're from. There are so many amazing houses, and to limit yourself to two or three just because that's where older girls have gone is just sad. College is not high school 2.0. You already have your high school friends, why not branch out and meet new people?

Part of it is that in-state girls look up to their older classmates who pledged certain sororities. Imagine if all your mentors, camp counselors, babysitters, tutors, team captains, etc grew up and went to ABC at Alabama. You look up to those girls. When you were younger you couldn't wait until you could graduate and be just like them, because they are so awesome. Now it's finally your turn and you decide to go to Alabama too. Now, where do you want to pledge now? The new row house you've barely heard of OR the old row house where every cool older girl you've ever known has pledged?

Especially with social media these days, girls from Bham and Mobile especially spend ALL of high school watching all the coolest college girls they know have an amazing time in a few select houses. Makes perfect sense why they'd want to follow in those girl's footsteps and get the college experience they've been watching on Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat for years.

The cycle breaks when OR houses take girls just based on legacy and connections, but the girls are actually fake and mean and not respected by the younger ones from the same HS...

And this happened with PC16 and OTM.

Expect some surprises.

Ddd has some nice girls but many didn't do anything in high school and it continues at the college level. They seem to accept that though, unlike KD which has huge cliques and is kind of phony cool. So don't expect to be very active with either. Lots of partying on both - but ddd is a happier place.

Tri delt here is one of the top fundraising chapters for their philanthropy, St. Jude, in the country. For the past few years, they have raised about $200,000 each year. I don't think they could do that by being "chill"
