Rushing sophomore year

by:

I'm going to transfer to A&M for my sophomore year, and I was wonder if that matters going through rush, like do some houses drop you just bc you aren't a freshman? and what is the entire process like here?

Howdy! I am a sophomore right now and I just rushed as a transfer too:) I had a great experience. While houses never tell you why they cut you, I don’t think I was cut from any because of my class. Even if I was, I ended up in a house with plenty of other sophomores in my MC and I love it. I met so many other sophomore girls the week of recruitment too- you won’t be alone at all!

Plenty of Fraternities and Sororities here take Sophomores. Especially since many Freshman go into FLO, and many people transfer to A&M for sophomore year.

While Fraternities and Sororities never really say why they drop you, I doubt they would just because of your class. If so, they probably should have never extended a bid in the first place.

I rushed my sophomore year. And ended up in my number one house. Sororities (idk about frats) have a different quota for non freshmen. They have to take a certain number of sophomores and above so you aren’t competing with any freshman spots. Plus if you show them you get good grades in college and are active in your school then it looks even better.

She is correct that there is an "upper class quota" which is in addition to the regular quota (which is based on a formula of how many girls attended pref plus some other factors). The upper class quota does not count against regular quota, and is usually less than 10% (if that) of regular quota.
Two things though: 1. A sorority does not HAVE to take upper class quota new members (though almost all do).
2. The sorority can put you on their regular bid list as an upper class. A and M is a lot more laid back than other SE Conference schools (Bama, LSU, etc.) or UT. Lots of girls join every years as sophomores.
