Li'l Advice Going Into Pref
by: Breathe
OK PNMs. Take a deep breath and relax. If you are going into Pref with sadness over a house that you had set your heart on earlier in the week--but the planets didn't align to get you there for Pref--please forget about them so you can focus on the possibilities in front of you. If you were properly prepared for this week, you were told NOT to fall in love with any sorority until Pref. Now's the time to do that. If you are going into Pref with a hard choice between organizations you actually love equally, that's OK too.
Take in the Pref night ceremony of the sororities you DO visit. Look around - not at the existing members, but the PNMs in the room. Those are the ones you could be building relationships with and forming a sisterhood with. Does their energy and enthusiasm match yours, or is it stronger - such that they could make you even more enthusiastic about that sisterhood? Can you see that happening in the future? Don't let outside opinions impact your feelings. And recognize that you may end up someplace unexpected on Bid Day, and that happens thousands of times a year, and many of those ladies who start out in their 2nd choice organization become the best sisters who love it more than anyone.
This week is hard and cutting through the noise to make a connection is a struggle for everyone - PNMs and members alike. Pref is a chance to be still and listen to that little voice in your heart. Hang in there. Be open minded. If you are going back to a chapter that this site told you wasn't worthy, forget that & see what YOU actually feel about the women around you. Every NPC sorority has an exceptional national organization behind them, that will be the foundation for your experience long after you leave A&M. Trust the process and give yourself a pat on the back for making it this far. And good luck finding your home!

This and all this! As a senior, I have learned so much. I love my sisters and my house, but I wonder what it would be like to be on the ground floor of a new to campus sorority. My aunt was at A&M when DG came. She went through rush that year and said no one wants to go build a house. But they recruited well throughout the year and built an amazing chapter. PNM's- if you have some of the newer houses on pref- don't be discouraged! Leaders are needed in every house and to have the opportunity to steer a new house would be an amazing opportunity! Make sure your experience is your own, not what others say. the OP is right, all our chapters are strong nationally. While you're not thinking about college graduation now, your house WILL offer you connections in your future!
