Too old to join?
by: CuriousI’m not looking to join the top house or whatever but I missed out on Greek life when I first started college due to mental health stuff. I’m thinking of going back to school again but I’m in my late 20s and I’m mistaken for my early 20s a lot. Could I still join a sorority by the time I transfer to TAMU? Really just looking for honest opinions.

I wouldn’t. Honestly most of the girls joining are 18-19. If you’re in your upper twenties, you’re not going to mentally or emotionally want to be around 18-19 year olds. However, there are many National sororities who invite women to become alumna initiates. Another way to be involved in a similar organization that is not a sorority but you get the same vibe would be The Junior League or National Charity League.

You only live once and you’ll never know unless you try. Go for it. We need more than just 18-21 year olds anyways. There are so many older students at tamu that could totally be a part of a sorority. People just don’t because there’s too many annoying teeny boppers.

No, don’t. Your pledge class will be 90% full of 18 year olds who just moved out of their parents home 1 week ago. You’ve been independent for a decade and are pushing 30. Honestly, unless you’re incredibly immature and usually hang out with people 10 years younger, you’d hate it. Looking like an 18 year old and acting like one are two different things.
There are other outlets if you are seeking close female friendships & leadership opportunities & the shared mission of an organization. Junior League is a fantastic option & once you’ve finished your provisional year, you can transfer membership to any other League in the country.

I find it odd at your age that you would want to hange out with girls that much younger than you. Not trying to be mean, it’s just odd. I would suggest maybe finding your people in a different environment as it is likely you are in a very different place than they are

that’s their choice if they want to be around 18-19 years. Don’t be a gatekeeper. If plenty of National chapters accept alumna initiates they can let someone in while they’re still in school too.
