Parent's occupation on resume?

Hey y'all,
I'm rushing in the Fall and have friends also rushing that told me we have to put what our parent's do for living on our resume. Is that true? I'm new to all this and I'ts no biggie but I just thought it was a little strange.

If you put your parent’s occupation on YOUR resume you are looking desperate and trying way too hard!! Our chapter would cut you just for doing that!

Do we put the colleges they went to even if they weren't in greek life? I see lots of example resumes doing this and it's a little weird to me.
