Thetas new “inclusion policy”
by: NoneJust wondering how others felt about the new theta policy which was unveiled on July 23. Which was only about fifteen days before rush started. So why would a theta legacy EVER reveal that piece of information on her recruitment paperwork, you know? Revealing yourself as a theta legacy can’t help you with theta and can only hurt you with all of the other sororities. VERY poor, and likely, politically motivated decision making today.

Yep- totally politically motivated. I know a great girl who got cut. Theta strung her along and cut her right before pref. Sure Theta can do that, but think about it Theta!!! If she is a legacy, other sororities will cut her b/c they think she will go Theta. You basically leave her with nothing bc she's been cut by everyone else. It's just mean. And for Theta to have come out with that decision a mere week before Rush starts?? There was NO way a PNM could get their paperwork back and take off the info about being a legacy. Theta screwed those girls that they cut. No other way to say it. I am SO glad I got cut by them. No way do I want to have any part in treating people they way Theta treated legacy Pnms this year.

100% agree with their decision. I do think that announcing it a week before pref was not the best for some of the girls, but all of the chapters were aware of this change by Theta and so legacy status shouldn't have mattered to them. Additionally, if you weren't planning on rushing your legacy then you have to let the other chapters know that (and that goes for anyone who is a legacy, not just Thetas). One of my best friends was a legacy for another chapter but still got a bid from Theta because she was vocal about her love for their sorority throughout all of rush. I understand that some girls might've been left high and dry because they came in with expectations, but as a whole, legacies are not owed anything and should be held to the same standards as every other PNM.

i totally think what theta did was good. maybe the timing was off, but why should a legacy take away a spot from someone who may have deserved it more? the structure of the legacy process is inherently holding back BIPOCs from joining fraternities/sororities because "many times the majority of these legacies are from white families, so the mathematical possibility for a person of color to gain admittance to a historically white fraternity/sorority chapter on some campuses is exceptionally low"!!! i wish my srat would do the same, diversity and inclusion is important

If a girl is a legacy and comes to pref she is automatically at the top of our bid list according to our nationals rules. We don’t have rules about cutting before that, though, so we can still cut a legacy any time before pref.
