What a joke about legacies

by:

My roommate got dropped from her legacy house right before pref. So all the sororities she could have been interested in had already cut her since they prob assumed she'd go her legacy house. What a mess. I know legacies don't mean as much as they used to but they could have cut her earlier so she had a chance at something else. Other girls got in that had way worse grades, etc. I'm so glad that house cut me! I would hate to be a part of that. And the funny thing is they are known for being high-class, Christian girls.

Legacies don’t mean as much but I agree that it’s really bad form to cut that late.

That's really unfortunate. I'm sorry that happened.

Theta! And let me just say, how much loyalty and love do you feel toward your chapter when they string someone along then cut them? And then the current members know now that no courtesy will be extended to their daughters as legacies. Really makes you want to be a part of that sisterhood!!!

Agreed Theta does not treat legacies well. My mom was even a Theta at TAMU and I still got cut the same way right before pref.

Theta nationals got rid of legacy this year to increase chapter diversity. You can see it on their national page.

Alpha Chi did that exact same thing to me last year!

Theta removed all preference given to legacies right before recruitment started this year. It was a national mandate. There is no difference between a legacy there and any other girl.

Which is sad...why would you want to be a theta knowing that your sister or daughter is no better off as a legacy? It’s a slap in the face to women who have loved and faithfully served their sororities and would love for their family members to continue the tradition. Oh well......

DG & AOPi also did away with preferential treatment for legacies this year. So that is now 3 chapters on our campus, including Theta. Pi Phi & Tri Delt’s nationals are allowing individual chapters to decide how to handle legacies (preferential treatment or not).

The writing is on the wall - this is where National Panhellenic is going and I expect most chapters to follow in time.

I get that sororities can’t take every single legacy, but I think it’s bad form to string them along and then cut them in the last round. Not cool Theta.

Lol zeta did that to me. I get that they’re a top chapter but I was really looking forward to wearing my moms pin and stuff :(
