AOPI Please honest opinions

by: PNM

Why is AOPI ranked lower? I understand they are a new sorority but, I had great conversations with everyone I talked too. They seemed very genuine, friendly and welcoming. Please give me your honest opinion on their reputation.

They really don’t have a bad rep. They are sweet and genuine women and are just at the bottom because they’re the newest. Honestly with their new house I could see them moving up in the ranks over the next few years if they get some strong PCs. If you love them then who cares about what people on this site think? If that’s home to you then it’s home.

there is nothing wrong with aopi they are just new. a lot of people from other sororities are posting mean things recently because aopi is actually doing good and don’t want them to go past their own sorority. everyone I met in aopi is friendly and seems very genuine. if you have good conversations go there and don’t worry about anyone else’s opinion

Yes I do.It is just hard to judge a sorority off of a few people.

AOPi is “ranked” low on this site because they are the newest chapter. They got a great nm class last year and did spring cob and got even more amazing women. Please don’t pay attention to rank!!!! These girls are lovely and I bet they get a full nm class this year.

They had to take some weirdos to fill up since they’re new

It depends what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for clout they’re def not for you, and people will not be impressed if you say you’re an aopi. But from what I’ve heard and seen they’re nice girls, just not an impressive house

That is the absolute dumbest thing to be worried about. Are you still in high school?

I would disagree. I think they are a very impressive group of young women. They took an expansion chapter from zero to a brand new house and a sisterhood of nearly 200 women in only 3 years. They did this while recruiting from a TENT! They give huge support to their national philanthropy (Arthritis Foundation). Their sisterhood is amazing and the academic support and encouragement they offer new members (so many STEM majors) is fab.

All that with little alum involvement because AOII has not been big in Texas. They are definitely on the rise. If the NMs'20 are quality them they will be shaking up perceptions this year.

Here’s what’s going to hold them back:
(1) not strong in Texas means little alum and advisory support. (2) new house which means they haven’t had the chance to save and solicit alum donations like other chapters just bc they’re such a new chapter. They’re going to have to offset that with high dues. (3) when tamu was open for expansion, CPC was going to narrow it down to 3 choices from all who applied. AOPi was the ONLY sorority to apply which shows other Panhellenic sororities didn’t think it was a good place for them to expand. It’s going to be really difficult to expand their membership here and do it successfully with little to no alum involvement offering the support that large tamu chapters require. They’ll have to take really anyone willing to pay.

They’re not “bad” just new and still trying to figure out their identity and how to operate.
