Open Bidding/ Snap Bidding
by: Advice Needed lolWhat are my chances of withdrawing and doing open bidding to possibly get one of the chapters I connected with? Also is spring recruitment a thing this year?

I would not drop out of formal recruitment thinking you can get a snap bid or COR most sororities will probably meet quota which means they won't be participating. Also, the numbers are usually extremely low for girls they can take in if they do COR or snap bidding. You are honestly better off staying in and seeing if the house(s) you got asked back to change your mind. Do not drop just because you thought you belonged to a certain house and you didn't get asked back to it chances are they probably thought you would fit in better with a different house.

Usually once chapter total is set, that’s when snaps and COB will start. If you’re wanting to drop because you are left with perceived “lower tier” houses, I don’t know that you would get snap or COB from anyone else. Especially if you went into philanthropy with a less than full schedule. In person probably would not have been much different, believe it or not. You don’t talk to that many girls when you do live rush. It’s so fast, loud and in and out. If you didn’t know girls in the houses coming in or didn’t have some kind of out of this world resume, then the likelihood of things turning out differently are slim. And trust me....even when recruitment is live, girls still go through this whole thing of wanting to quit and blame it on something. There are girls who would give their leg to have two houses left.

DO NOT DROP OUT OF FORMAL RECRUITMENT!!! If you get to pref and the two houses you have you are completely 100% against, then you can drop. On bid day almost every house does snap bids, some just more lowkey than others. If you have houses you felt ok about on your list I strongly encourage you to try them out! Good luck!

I don’t think you can get a snap bid if you drop before pref? Maybe that’s wrong idk but I recommend staying until bid day! On pref you could find a real connection with one of the chapters. When I went through last year I got cut from 2 houses I thought I had a great connection with (one that I was a legacy for) but then got cut from both and was pretty crushed. On pref night I fell in love with a house I hadn’t really connected with during the week and I’m so glad I stuck it out to find them! It definitely hurts to be cut but there’s a group here for you <3

Be sure your really understand the process. You can go to pref, but if you want to be eligible for COB, snaps, etc. you can not sign the form. You essentially drop out after pref. However, if you feel a connection with one or both of the groups, sign your form, get a bid and enjoy the new member time. If you decide you aren’t a good fit, you can drop out before initiation and then go through formal recruitment next year. A lot of Sophomores do recruitment at A&M. If you do sign a bid card, you will not be eligible for anything until fall of next year.

lol I did this last year and it was perfectly fine. I say go with your gut. If you truly feel like you are left with houses you don’t connect with, then drop. Why pay all that money to be unhappy with where you are.
