Every girl gets a bid as long as you maximize your options every day! And with the addition of AOPI, you would have to actually try to get dropped completely. There a few chapters that hardly ever meet quota or have I snap bid to meet it so you won’t be dropped completely. There’s always a chance you’ll end up in a chapter that you may have already dropped but they needed to meet quota so you could get a bid from them anyway and this would mean you got dropped from the other houses you had beforehand. Sorry if that sounds confusing, that’s the best way I can explain it!

Not exactly.....

While it's true that if you maximize your options on Pref Night, you're guaranteed a bid...it's possible to not have any options to maximize if you're dropped completely.

All chapters cut and all chapters have standards, even the new ones and the ones who struggle to make Quota. They all have GPA minimums to meet, they all cut girls with "questionable reputations" or girls who are flat-out B's to them during rush.

It's honestly rude and destructive to tell a pnm that she would have to "work hard to get cut" because the reality is tha a few girls DO slip through the cracks every year. It's probably less than 20-30 who get released completely but does happen. And it typically happens like this: pnm has "perfect" rush for rounds 1 & 2 going to only top houses for sisterhood. Then, bam. She gets released by all the chapters because she only had the really competitive chapters left and wasn't high enough on any of their lists to get to Pref.

OP, the chances of you getting a bid are extremely high as long as you're open to EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER, have recs to all, a good reputation/ clean social media, and good (not perfect, but good) grades. But no one can promise you a 100% chance you'll get a bid.

Is there even a chance to get a bid with NO letters of red and just being a completely new student who doesn’t know anyone at a&m? I’m new :/

Not knowing anyone won’t hurt you, there are plenty of girls (including myself) who didn’t know anyone and still got a bid. However, not having ANY letters of rec for any house will definitely hurt your chances. There are a few houses I believe that you could still get a bid from so you’re chances aren’t hurt completely. My houses in particular will drop girls that don’t have a rec letter, but some houses don’t do that, it just depends on the house!

Please try and get letters of rec, especially if you don't know people here now. More competitive sororities take girls who have connections AND letters of rec. If they really really like the girl then it will be ok to be missing one or the other but never both.

There are also sororities that will take girls without recs and without connections but why limit your choices? You know about letters of rec now so there is no excuse for you to not start looking around now.

Do y’all know a specific sorority that doesn’t accept anyone with letters of Rec? When do they ask to see your letters, is this before recruitment or during Greek Dat?Also, how do you even get one. Does the person have to be an active member to write you one? I just honestly don’t know anyone that is involved with Greek yet would love to be in one

A lot of girls have successful rushes without knowing any active members. But why would being new prevent you from getting recs? You can ask ANY sorority alumnae from any school to write your recs, they don't need to be from A&M alumnae. So if your granny was a Gamma Phi at Syracuse or your bff's mom was a Kappa at Texas Tech, they can both write your recs.

Ask EVERY woman you know- teachers, coaches, neighbors, friends' moms and older sisters, your mom & grandma's friends, etc.

To g:

You’ll need to get folders together for EVERY house that include a couple pictures of yourself, a resume, and a page lengths worth of information about yourself (stuff you did high school, plans for college, etc.) then you send those to the people that would write rev letters for you and they will send them to the sororities. Post on Facebook, ask teachers, or anyone you think that could help and ask them if they know anyone that could write a rec, you’d be surprised how many women you know that were in sororities!

Yes, there are chapters on campus whose nationals require a rec in order to get a bid.

Here's how recs work:
1. You network to find 1+ alumnae from every sorority at A&M. Your rec writers need to be alumnae, not actives, and can be from any chapter in the country. They don't have to be A&M DG's to write your DG rec, for example. A neighbor who was a DG at U of Houston or Florida could write your rec. Ask EVERY woman you know if she was in a sorority! Teachers, neighbors, your friends' moms, etc. If your friends are rushing at A&M or any other school, ask who's writing their recs and if you know those women, ask them!

2. Once you have women who have agreed to write your recs, you'll give them a packet with your resume, transcript, and headshot (in classic clothing, not a prom dress or athletic uniform). Be sure to write a thank you note in a timely manner as they will spend a few hours on your recs!

3. The alumnae take it from there! They mail or email your packet & rec directly to the chapters at A&M. No one at the chapter will ask you if you have a rec or ask to show it. The rec writers will not provide you with a copy and do not ask for one either.
