informal rush?

by: Soon To Be Frog

I've been looking at this and other pages and it says that you're in better stature if you get a bid from a fraternity during summer. Is this true? Are guys taken formally looked down upon or is it something to not even worry about?

It's not that you are looked down upon its that most people fill their classes through informal rush so its harder to get a bid through formal. Also formal rush is extremely boring and its harder to get to know somebody and impress them in the 30 minutes or hour that you have. Informal is also a lot more fun

The more selective groups do not put as big of a effort in this but there will be plenty of opportunities

You can certainly find a good house through formal rush. Do not be discouraged.

Some groups don't put as much effort into formal Rush but you still can get a bid

Contact the chapter Presidents and see if you can get invited to a summer party. The worse that happens is you do the fall overall.

This would be some good advice but know that you can get a bid to a good group either way. You want a group with brotherhood that will last a lifetime more than how they are ranked on an anounomious website.

The posts above are a bit to hopeful. You can find a good house in formal rush.

That being said, you are 100x in better stature if you get a bid over the summer. Not only can you relax knowing you have a place (need to somewhat stay around to make sure they don't drop you), but you are looked upon much more highly.

In most fraternities guys are not looked down at all for being a formal pledge. But in the top couple of fraternities they 100% are. A formal pledge is looked as someone who was taken in after only a few minutes of introduction and more of a pity or numbers bid. Either way it is frowned upon by pretty much all members. Other pledges will have known each other and the actives for several weeks or several days at the least.
