rec letters
by: HiI'm beginning to prepare for fall recruitment. How many REC letters would you suggest I try to get for each house. Do they hold more weight if a current active writes them?

actives can't write Recs so they need to come from alumni. i tried to get 2-3 recs for each house but there were a couple houses where i couldn't find a red or could only find one. try to get at least one for every house and two or three if you can! if you can't find one, don't worry too much.

I went through recruitment last year and was very unaware of how the process worked. I had one rec letter for about 7-8 houses from a few of my cousin's friends. They are not extremely important like at other schools, but they definitely don't hurt either. I would recommend getting at least one a house, but do not think you need lots of letters to have a chance. I absolutely love the house I am in and only had one letter from someone I barely knew. Good luck!

Aim for 2 recs to each chapter written by women who know you and/or your family very well. I don't think actives are allowed to write recs, at least in my sorority they must be written by alumnae. That said, if you are a legacy through an active sister, she should definitely reach out to the house (in addition to your recs) to make them aware of your legacy connection.
There is at least 1 chapter on campus who has a national policy that pnms must have a rec on file to be given a bid.
