mississippi pnms

What percentage of Mississippi girls land a top tier sorority on pref day? What percentage want that? Do they feel more pressure or feelings of failure than OOS PNMs if they aren't selected by the old row sororities?

Old row sororities aren't even a thing here. Old row means sponsered by Budweiser. Lots of sororities chose not to be soonsered by Budweiser because it's a beer company.

Most girls from Mississippi want either ddd or xo. That's how we were raised. If we don't get bids to those two, we will happily accept bids to KD, DG, and phi mu because those sororities have deep roots as well. Kappa is a consolation prize. Any lower than kappa and a well bred Mississippi girl will drop and take her chances as a gdi.

A Poorer, not wealthy Mississippi girl will take any bid because they don't feel the pressure like girls from Jackson feel.

Xo takes the most Mississippi girls followed by ddd. KD and DG also take a lot. Phi mu and kappa have more OOS girls.

I'm a MS girl who went through and had my heart set on being a Kappa or KD. I cut Chi O philanthropy round because they just weren't for me and I knew girls would die to go back there and I would dread it. Tri-Delt wasn't for me either when they asked a girl in my rush group what her parents did for a living during a round. I hated DG from day 1, they were all too "edgy" for me with their hipster clothes. Phi Mu was okay, I just didn't like how dumb every girl acted. I'm talking like Elle Woods socially stupid and it annoyed me. so no, not every MS girl wants to be a Chi O or Tri-Delt. I never liked either to be honest. It takes just pushing yourself past the title and figuring out where you really belong instead of where everyone else thinks you will just based on your zip code.

you're apparently illiterate. I didn't cut Chi O because of their philanthropy. I said I cut them because I knew I wouldn't fit it and be comfortable where as other girls felt they would, so I didn't want to be wasting Chi O's time. DDD asked several girls that. DG gave me that impression way before rush. I have good friends from my hometown in DG and like with Chi O I knew I wouldn't fit there. Ask anyone. Phi Mu does have quite a few air heads or maybe it was just all the girls I was paired with during the week and all the girls I've met after rush.
I can't believe you'd try to insinuate that I Cut Chi O because of their philanthropy

1) Elle Woods isn't real
2) She's supposed to be a lawyer, so obviously not stupid...good try though

I'm also from Mississippi and I completely agree with this whole post. Chi O and Tri Delt aren't for everyone, not even every Mississippi girl.

You're right! Not every Mississippi girl is top tier quality. Lots of Mississippi girls feel more comfortable in lesser sororities. It's all about where you feel you fit in.

For Mississippi girls it's either xo or ddd. We head into recruitment hoping for one of these.

Girls from Jackson also love KD! KD, Tri Delt, chi o, and DG are all sought after houses.

I agree with @KD. I dream about being a Chi O Tridelt KD or DG (moreso the first 3 than DG). Even if i don't like those houses during rush and I fit in somewhere else, they are very sought after. The girls I know from my home town or that I grew up with are mostly in Chi O Tridelt KD DG, and then a handful of Phi Mu's and 2 or 3 KKG's and AOPi's.

or another every sought after girl from Jackson, Madison, Tupelo, good schools in the Delta, and Hattiesburg end up in XO, DDD, KD, and DG. Literally giant herds of friends are split into those houses.

I wouldn't exactly call DG a sought after house . Every girl I know who went DG did so because she was a legacy. It's not the same caliper sorority as they were 20 years ago. KD has passed them up.

by: What??May 1, 2015 11:29:07 PM

First of all.....CALIBER. And all the top 4 "Mississippi Chapters" have a crap ton of legacies. They all lose girls to each other, and yes sometimes to mid tier houses too. There is no point to trying to separate it, whether you think DG is top or middle they are still heavily consider a Mississippi Girl chapter and girls from these top schools go in wanting one, two, or any of those 4.

DG isn't sought after more than XO DDD KD but DG is right behind them. I would very happily settle for DG if I didn't get a top house.

So if you're a beauty pageant winner from Mississippi and you're not in the top 3, what does that say about you?

If a beauty pageant winner from Mississippi is not in the top tier then maybe she had a low gpa, or a bad reputation, or lacked connections, or preferred another house. Could be 1000 plus reasons.

There are other houses! I hope you girls don't think that just because you're from Mississippi means that you'll end up in DDD, XO, KD, and DG right?
Sorry ladies, OOS girls are pouring in and the only thing Mississippi girls have going for them is better ways to get connections. OOS girls get into top houses too, and in state girls get into bottom tier houses.
Don't think that your zip code dictates which house will give you a bid.

By: Hello?
by: umMay 2, 2015 10:05:58 AM

Yes obviously there are other houses. OP was talking about the top houses. And pretty much everyone that has commented said that most MS girls WANT chio tri delt kd or dg not that they all pledge those houses. Tons of MS girls do pledge those houses, but obviously tons pledge lower tier houses too.

But I do agree with you because girls don't need to think that just because they're from a good town in MS it doesn't mean that they get an automatic bid to a top house or any house, really.

Want XO, DDD, KD, DG. End of story. MS girls who like to party go KKG and those who don't have as many connections go Phi Mu. End of story. When a girl from Jackson or Tupelo joins a bottom tier house, she either had a horrible rep or bad grades.

MS girls get into bottom tier houses. Sorry, but being from po-donk Mississippi doesn't mean that you won't be in Theta or ADPi. Sorry, ladies!

Being from po-dunk Mississippi? So people who live in MS because thats where their parents chose to live are po-dunk but someone who chooses completely on their own to leave their state and go to college in Mississippi isn't...?

Not saying that! I'm just saying that you girls are way too entitled and there's a lot of Mississippi girls who are from the middle of no where think that they "deserve" to be a top tier. That's what I meant.

I'm from out of state and I chose to come to ole miss because I love the culture of Oxford, not Mississippi as a whole. To be perfectly honest, the rest of this state terrifies me. There are much better places in the world.

I think you'll find northern mississippi to be one of the most beautiful places in the nation! It really is breathtaking.

Oxford is secluded from the rest of the state. It's almost like Mayberry. You will probably find it more boring than terrifying.

A lot of MS is run down and not very cute or nice, yes. But our state is nothing to be afraid of lol. Unless you're scared of teeny tiny towns with nothing in them and where everyone is super nice and knows everyone else in the town. They're pretty cute actually but I don't really want to live in one of them. Some of Jackson/all of Madison are great places to live though. Madison is a really nice place to live- it's the nicest in the state. Hattiesburg and Tupelo and Gulfport are bad either!

Every year there are about 100 or so girls who drop out of rush rather than except bids from houses they feel are beneath them. Most of these girls are from Mississippi. It's sad really when you think about it!

As more and more OOS students come to olei miss and go through recruitment, even the top sororities will start taking more and more OOS girls. With the exception of xo, all the other houses have less than 50% Mississippi girls.

Mississippi girls will have to get over their prejudices if they want to join sororities. There are just too many amazing girls coming from OOS. Alumni will have to accept this and quit giving bids to girls just because they are from Mississippi, or top houses won't remain top for long.

By: Drops
by: ^May 3, 2015 2:30:55 PM

Agreed!!! Mississippi girls think that they DESERVE a certain house and then they drop when they're going to sisterhood round with lower mid or bottom tier houses.
Honestly, being OOS doesn't matter (you just need connections). Ole Miss is full of out of state students and Mississippi girls need to realize that their zip code isn't going to be a big advantage anymore.

Definitely not. Tons of girls from the north and "poor" small towns pledge good houses. Good rec letters and knowing a few actives will help you overcome this.
