No, a rec will not help you get noticed unless a powerful alumni who works closely with the chapter knows the woman who wrote the rec for you. You're going to need connections.
My house goes with connections and how you do during rush. Recs don't mean anything and resumes are only there so we see that you were involved.

If you don't have connections already, you ARE already at a disadvantage. You might meet some actives over the summer or after school starts, but for some houses, that will be too late.
Yes, more and more girls are putting their social media accounts on their resumes! Super private settings means to us that you have a lot to hide. We will likely pass you over unless we see we have mutual friends.
I get emails from friends all the time asking me how I know somebody if they see me as a mutual friend.

I am from out of state. I have only been MS once to visit Ole Miss. I can take off my private settings until rush week is over.
I really want to do good during rush week.
I am coming for orientation in May. How can I meet some actives and make some connections?

Oh no! For the top six sororities you need connections.
Bottom houses maybe pays attention to resumes and rec letters when putting their lists together.
