knowing your rec writers
by: PNM
Hello everyone!
I just want to clear up something really fast.
It is to my understanding that knowing your rec writers is better than not for obvious reason. However, PNM's have also been told to get rec writers that went to Ole Miss. Is it better to know your rec writer or that they went to Ole Miss.
I know I can hunt down an Ole Miss grad somewhere in the midwest, but with that being said, I probably can't meet them personally.
Thanks for taking the time to help me! Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!

A rec is a form letter. A letter of support is a hand written letter on personal stationary.
It is far better to get your rec from an ole miss alum than someone who is not from ole miss. If it will make you feel better, get two recs, one from an ole miss alum and one who knows you better.
The letters of support are far more personal and should come from someone who knows you well.
Top tier is not for everyone, if you don't hunt down those chapter alumni, then no tears on bid day! We don't want you coming back on here telling is how mean girls were to you when you didn't put forth the effort to try to find recs and connections.
Hunt down those recs! You never know when you might meet someone who can introduce you to actives in the house'.

So you are only interested in the "top" 6 houses? Good luck with that. No interest in even looking at the other 5 chapters? So rude to dismiss nearly half of the chapters at Ole Miss. You will get what you deserve. You might need to seriously consider if being a member of one of those "not top 6" chapters is better than having no home at all.

So I'm still a little confused. My understanding is the following is perfectly ok:
2 recs (one from ole miss alum and another from someone who went else where...both of whom you don't know personally)
1 letter of support from someone who knows you personally
And what's the difference between the two in how they're suppose to be written? Like is there a form to fill out for a letter of support?
