international rush?

I'm from Australia and coming here for university! I am so excited because in Australia we have nothing like sororities / fraternities! They look so fun! I was wondering if a girl from out of the country is allowed to rush and if we would have a chance?! I'm fairly pretty and made amazing marks in highschool but I won't know a sole and I have no way of getting connections or Rec letters.....do I have a chance? Is this even possible to do? Let me know :-) xx

A sorority will not be able to give you a bid without at least a rec. It would be in their national by laws and their hands would be tied.

If you want to join a sorority, you will have to work at it just like everyone else.

I'm not saying I wouldn't work at it! but I'm not from America. There is no one to ask for a recommendation letter! I live thousands of miles away and most people here don't even know what sororites are or only know about them from movies!

I saw this and decided to respond. I would email Ole Miss Greek Life and talk to someone there. Also, join Ole Miss Class of 2019 and post what you just posted here. Make sure you have a facebook so girls can contact you . Because we dont know who you are we can't help. I use to live in Australia and have lots of friends there.

You could contact the national offices of the sororities on campus and ask their advice. I'm sure you can google them to find out how to contact them. There are international students who are in or have been in sororities here so there has to be a solution.

Hey! I am going to be a freshman at Ole Miss next year and I am from the states, but I am so excited to meet you and do rush together!! I will be praying everything works out. I'm sure if you email Ole Miss Greek Life they could work something out for you!

Please go for it! My sorority has 3 international girls and we absolutely LOVE them! Yes it would be beneficial if you could some way some how get a rec letter, but you will stand out during rush because you are international!

I helped a girl go through rush this year who was an international student and she was able to use the month beforehand to get rec letters. Your Gamma Chis and girls in your rush group will help you get everything together if you ask! So glad you're going through recruitment! Make sure you have some great senior photos and a resume ready to go!
