oos recs
by: 2015rusheeI'll be rushing next fall and my mom is from MS and went to Ole Miss, but I am OOS. I recently heard from a rep to get recs from ladies in your hometown, whether they are Ole Miss alumnae or not, rather than alumnae you may not know. So, do I ask my mom's friends from Ole Miss to write recs, or ladies from my hometown? (considering there is not a lot of overlap between the two since I am OOS)

Chances are, your rec is gonna be a better rec from someone you know opposed to someone you don't know. As far as I know the rec writer will write on the rec that they don't personally know you but you're a friend of a friend or something like that, while someone you know would write that they personally know you very well and they've watched you grow up into great kid. It does help for it to be from an Ole Miss alum though. Even though you don't really know some of your moms friends who are Ole Miss alumni, they probably know you (if they are still good friends with your mom) and they keep up with you from your mom's Facebook and things like that.
Get one to write your rec and get the other one to write a letter of support, so either way you do it, you have an Ole Miss alumni and someone who knows you really well (that will probably rave about how great you would be for her sorority) sending things in about you.
Someone else may have some advice about this too

XO requires that your rec by someone from your home town. Not even a neighboring suburb, it needs to be someone that lives in the same city you have in your address. Even though everyone says it isn't needed, lots of girls get 2 recs, then a letter or two if they have enough connections. That is not the deciding factor but it doesn't hurt to have a few. There are girls who have been hurt by having a flood of letters - smacks of desperation, so don't worry if you can just get one. I wouldn't recommend getting more than 2 or 3 unless you have family friends who are active in the local alumni chapter or in Ole Miss stuff.
