When rushing, are there certain sororities that will not take you if you're from out of state?

House takes OOS girls. They HAVE to because there aren't enough in state girls rushing to fulfill a 130 person pc for a sorority. Even houses like xo and Dg that are known for ms girls, have plenty of oos girls. Xo, kd, Dg, and phi mu definitely prefer southern girls.

There is a huge difference in "out of state" being from the South OR being a Yankee. Southern girls (Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, the Carolinas, etc) will fit into most chapters with no problem. They just need to have the rest of the "sorority package". Girls from Texas, the Carolinas, California do very well.

Girls from up north, not so much. It will be harder for them, but certainly not impossible to get a bid.

Every house has out of state girls. Where are you from? Girls from the south and texas generally do better than girls from the north. Take a look at chi o, delta gamma and kappa delta's facebook pages where they lost their pledge class. It should say where the girls are form and you'll see most are from the south. Pi phi and ADPi are a lot more open to taking girls from the north and california. Location isn't everything but for some houses, it'll make or break you.

If a house likes a girl from alabama and another girl from the north equally, they'll chose the southern girl if they have to pick just one. I don't think being from the south makes someone better, it's not a personal opinion.. It's just how olemiss rush is.

If you are from a southern state you will do just fine. If you are from a northern state you can kiss ddd, KD, xo, and DG goodbye, unless you are truly exceptional.
