I'm so happy to get accepted into Ole Miss and even more excited for formal recruitment next fall. Any advice for a girl from South Jersey?

Good for you!! I would suggest toning down that NJ accent, cool it on any excessive tanning, and make sure that your grades and community service are as good as you can possibly make them. Next start getting recommendations from sorority members lined up for all of the chapters at Ole Miss.

Ignore the rude people on here. Congrats on your acceptance to college and we're so happy you're excited and want to rush!!! Here are some tips:
1) Make sure you meet a lot of girls at orientation and during move in week. Orientation is where I have met some really great girls who I'm still friendly with today, regardless of which sorority we're in. Move in week, you gotta go out. Meet some girls and you might end up meeting some sorority girls. Have fun but not too much fun.
2) CONFIDENCE!! :D It's key!
3) During rush, make yourself memorable. Act like you want to be there, act excited, and smile! If you don't get invited back, move on because they weren't for you any ways.
4) The girls on here who say if you're OOS that you won't get into a good sorority, there are a TON of OOS girls here and sororities are becoming diverse.
5) OPEN MIND! All the sororities here are great sororities! If tier is all that's important to you (seriously, no one cares about tiers), then you're going to be miserable.

Congrats on your acceptance! Definitely go through rush!

The only people who don't care about tiers are those in the bottom tier.

uh false... @:) is totally right. The only people who are about tiers are superficial entitled freshman girls that have been in a sorority for 10 seconds. Ole miss has such a great greek system that all of our houses are great. This poster is only trying to encourage a pnm. There is no need to comment rude things because it only makes you and your house look classless.

please don't let these rude people discourage you! Not every girl is like this and rush is awesome! You'll definitely find your new home away from home and meet many wonderful new sisters!

Don't you recognize sarcasm? The OP is made up just to elicit these kind of responses. Do we really have to be so PC in the slim to none chance that it isn't? Let's all lighten up and have some fun!

Great response for a mom! The tier system is alive and well at ole miss. Sure all are great sororities, but some are just better than other. Unfortunately, somebody from New Jersey will have a difficult time getting into at least 5 or 6 houses. They are the top houses and they will judge her. Sorry but that is the truth. However, there are sororities that will welcome her with open arms and she needs to focus on those. Aopi is filled with northern girls. Pi phi, theta, and ADPi are also great houses for her to consider.

I'm not saying she doesn't have a shot at the others, but it's a slim shot and only if she is an exceptional pnm.

Stay up north unless you want to help colonize alpha phi
