fraternity rushing

by: Rushee

I'm from out of state but come from a nice area that usually has a good group of guys go Phi Delt or KA. If i have a 2.8 GPA would i be considered a grade risk? does GPA play that big of a part in guys rush at ole miss?

You need to think about something other than Phi Delt or KA.

Grade risk is 2.5 or below. Some fraternities have set higher standards for GPA. For the most part a 2.8 would not keep you out especially if you have an ACT of 25 or higher.

A 2.8 GPA is fine as long as you know people. If you have a few in house connections and a decent act score (24+) you'll have no problems. Be social and go to summer parties. Reach out to guys from your area about coming up to ole miss and hanging out with them during the summer. You have a better chance with phi delt than KA. I'm a female from out of state and a guy from my high school went phi delt and loves it. KA is a little more selective and wants mississippi legacies. But if you're from the south, in general, you should be fine.

KA doesn't show common courtesy if you are from OOS.

You asked a legitimate question and got a few helpful responses from @grades and @you'll be fine. I'm sure you can read between the lines for those that are bashing both KA and Phi Delt. I'm neither a KA or PDT so no skin in the game here.
Yes, Grades matter to the fraternity process. You have to have a 2.5 to even participate. A 2.8 is not considered a grade risk. Yes, Grades matter and national for the top houses stress this. Delta Psi/KA/EN/EX have the highest GPA's on campus. Most importantly to get in a top house, if you don't know anyone on campus, you have to network. You can not expect to get a bid from a top house by only showing up at their house during rush week. All the OOS kids and kids from smaller Ms. towns that get in top houses understand this. They networked with alums from their area and then got to know the guys in the houses they were interested in once they got on campus. Don't believe the OOS kids don't get in top houses or so called "mainly Mississippi" houses BS. That is completely false. My fraternity has more than 50% of the pledge class from OOS. Good luck and keep an open mind.
