rush 2014

by: Well

This new system is wreaking havoc. I feel bad so many are cut that otherwise would have been kept on. One of the bigger house cut all legacies and anyone they "think" might go elsewhere - just to make their numbers look good? Yea, they had a couple bad years, but this will drop them to mid tier after this year, at best. Ole miss rush has been more poistive in the past, at least for MS girls, now it's just brutal.

I get why houses are cutting girls they know they won't get but its not right to cut your friends cause your rush wasnt great last year - and its not gonna get better by cutting everyone that doesnt throw your sign before rush.

There is no "new system". at Ole Miss. They are using the same Panhel rules that everybody else uses. They have not changed. There are a lot more quality OOS girls competing for the same spots as the small town MIssissippi girls. Chapters are way more obsessed at their return rates than they are finding the great girls who will enhance their chapters. Shame...

What houses are you talking about? I'm in a top house and we certainly are not dropping our friends because we are worried about return rates.

Panhellenic is telling us how many girls we HAVE to drop each round. We don't really get a say in how many we can invite to each round.

This round of cuts will be the hardest as we LOVE everybody who has made it this far. Our biggest cuts have already been made and now we sit back and cry over the loss of beloved friends. If we could bid 600 and could manage that be of a pledge class, believe me, we would in a heartbeat.

why would any house cut all legacies? some of those legacies must have been good fits? why discriminate?

You misunderstood. No house is cutting legacies just because they are legacies. They are cutting legacies that they don't want.

...sororities need to be mindful that even OOS girls judge houses by the number of MS or deep south members...most girls want to be in "southern" chapters...so if they cut MS pnms... to take more OOS...just for return rates...that won't be a winning strategy...

Not really true, but keep telling yourself that!

More truthful would be that girls do want traditionally southern sororities because they share the same value, cultural, and belief systems. However, any southern state will do.

I think she meant cutting friends that are legacies to OTHER houses. So if she's an xyz legacy, the abc's will cut her if they think she's going to put xyz #1. Speaking of throwing signs, the girls I know that really made it clear what they wanted, legacy or not a legacy, got cut from some of the houses where they had a lot of friends. In the past a lot of them were kept on out of courtesy, but with Pan forcing major cuts early, some houses cut anyone they felt like might not really be interested. The going from 9/6/3 to 10/88/5/2 IS a huge change - girls were cut after what was basically the water party.
