pref

So from what I understand, if you pref and rank 2 houses, whichever house wants you more/you're higher up on the list, you will get regardless of how you rank? Or am I totally wrong?

Okay so say both houses are willing to give you a bid, the Panhellenic committee will go with your #1 choice for your bid. But say your #1 choice does not want to offer you with a bid, they will go with the other sorority you went to on pref and you'll get their bid. It goes off your rankings and their rankings but you will get a bid to one of the two houses if you make it to pref.

Just like she said^. It's a number game. If you ranked house ABC first and ABC has you towards the top of their list, you'll get a bid. However, if ABC puts you toward the bottom while your second choice, XYZ, puts you near the top you'll get a bid from XYZ. Just a number game but you will get a bid

Ok! So what do I do to make my #1 put me higher & my number 2 put me lower?? I've heard of just being polite and saying things like "I really have enjoyed my time & I appreciate y'all's effort, but I don't really see myself here tomorrow" and the opposite for the house you want? Or just go in to both being positive depending on my experience on skit?

Ok, so I'm confused a bit. So who you get a bid from is based on where on their list your name falls?
If I want ABC over XYZ and my name falls a little higher on one list than the other, the decision is based on their list and not my first choice? If you are on both lists at all don't they just go to your first choice?
Maybe I should know this but that last response confused me a bit.

If your first house has a spot for you, you will be matched to them. If first house is filled by the time they get to your name on their ranked list and your second house has a spot, then you get matched to the second house. If both are filled, then you will be placed in one of the houses as a quota addition. It depends on Panhellenic how QA are assigned. It can be PNM's first choice or house size or trying to keep new member classes equal. You have to list all houses to which you were invited to pref in order to be eligible for QA.

You could end up bidless if you say anything like that.

^^^^ Good advice up there. But if you do have one strong preference, it's ok to tell them pref night that they are your favorite. Sometimes that makes a difference in where they put you on their list.

Yes, I agree, of course it's okay to tell your #1 house something like "I really hope I come back here tomorrow" or something like that to make sure they know you are very interested in getting a bid from them.

I only really addressed the "I don't see myself here" thing which is obviously rude and unadvisable.

Recruitment is kind of like having job interviews. You can say something that comes across like "I would love to have this job" or "I really see myself doing this" but you should NEVER say "I don't really want to work here."

On the Ole Miss site, it says the average cost of being in a sorority is $350/month. I know it can be awkward to talk about money... can anyone weigh-in on whether or not cost varies that much between the top houses? I'm having such a great rush experience, but I've heard some cost WAY MORE than others. I'm not rich but also don't want to base my decision on finances, you know? HELP PLEASE!
