everyone chill it’s ok

Underperforming chapters close every year at campuses across the nation. It’s a financial decision made by nationals. Theta didn’t have the numbers to be financially sustainable despite repeated efforts by nationals to help them. It’s not unique to Ole Miss that a chapter has to close. Almost EVERY school in the nation has had a chapter close for this reason. It’s sad for theta but it’s gonna be ok.

A campus the size of Ole Miss needs more sororities, they don't need to be running off any. The reason we are losing Theta is because of a toxic Greek Life environment on this campus. Greek Life coordinators and Panhellenic have not done enough to get this under control.

You are acting like this situation is unique to Ole Miss when it’s not. A chapter being closed for not meeting quota and therefore financially a strain on nationals happens all the time. You don’t pay your bills you get shut down. Nationals couldn’t keep funding them forever.

A lot of colleges are seeing a decline in Greek life in general which is affecting their recruitment. Ole Miss has a strong Greek life system. We are losing Theta because of the toxic environment toward Theta on this campus. Once we lose Theta someone else will take their place and we will probably run that one off also. The long term affect will be to damage Ole Miss Greek Life instead of building it up.

Nationwide a lot of Nationals are experiencing financial problems. Some of it is poor management at the National level, some of it is the decline of Greek Life in some parts of the country. Theta is still a large sorority even if it is one of the smaller on campus. Theta has been failed by their own Nationals, the University, Panhellenic and the Greek life spirit at Ole Miss. This problem won't go away, it will just transfer to a different sorority.

Everyone understands sororities are businesses, and businesses care about the bottom line.
But who cares what happens on other campuses?

We need to admit we in Greek Life helped drive a sorority off campus with our behavior to each other, so much for sisterhood and Pan Love...

Maybe the goal is to only have 3 sororities?

We need to do better.

You can’t wash away guilt and justify the actions that led to this by saying “everyone is doing it.” It doesn’t work that way. Bullying a sorority to the point they leave campus at one school does NOT make it okay at another. And Bless Your Heart if you are unwilling or unable to accept that.

Women would've joined Theta if the tent talk and mean-spiritedness for the smaller chapter of the NPC was stopped by those that are in charge. Chapters do close due to low membership every single year, but on a campus with such a large Greek community, there is obviously a culture issue. A new NPC group will take Theta's place, and we can only hope they don't get the same treatment.

"A new NPC group will take Theta's place, and we can only hope they don't get the same treatment."

PLEASE. No NPC will touch this nest of vipers now. NPC actually had to send reps to campus a few years ago to say, "Bashing other sororities is bad, mmmkay?" Sad, really.

I think they mean that a chapter currently on campus will assume Theta’s position as low women on the totem pole.

Seriously, any "new" sorority that has any sense wouldn't set foot on this campus after seeing how Theta was treated!

Now one of their members is getting opinions on GC about turning the chapter into a local. A fake sorority will go over REALLY well at Ole Miss. Just enjoy the time you have left and leave with some dignity!

campuses with underground chapters or off-campus houses are totally a thing. Save your definition of dignity for your Sunday sermon and your congregation.

How is a local sorority not real? And how is there no dignity in wanting to maintain your bonds and continue to support your local philanthropy? Those both seem like the real values we’re all meant to be built on. Not every “real” sorority is NPC.

Do you wonder a little why there are no locals at Ole Miss? It is because the University will not allow them.
