why did some of the most perfect girls get cut???
by: curious personSome people who are very pretty, had amazing grades and service, and could hold a conversation were cut from almost all houses. So many people this year also didn’t even get their first choice. Any idea why some model pnms were thrown to the side?? Or why so many people didn’t get their first pick for bid day when on pref night they were told their fav house wants them back? I really am just curious. Thank you!

If you get to the pref round then you are on the bid lists for those houses, which means you ARE wanted there and they are prepared to give you a bid, but that is no guarantee that you will be high enough on your fav house's bid list to actually get that bid. You might get your second house instead because they wanted you more. The houses do the choosing. Your ranking is considered somewhat but is not the determining factor. And actives emphasize that they want you during pref; it is their job to do so. But it is strictly against rules to bid promise, so them saying they like you is just that, nothing more. And any girl who got a bid at Ole Miss was NOT "thrown to the side" for crying out loud. Our sororities are all amazing and offer the same social experience, opportunities, and sisterhood.

Agree with everything "because wrote." And this:
Just because a PNM seems 'model' doesn't mean she comes off that way during rush. I remember a girl who talked so much that no-one could get a word in. But when I got to know her post-rush in a campus group, she was very impressive. But we didn't see "that person" during rush. She clearly could hold a conversation, as I saw later, but didn't do that well enough during rush to get back to my house.
Everyone 'shows up' differently at parties and sometimes the girls you would think would do best just don't for whatever reason. Or even if they're 'model PNM's' that doesn't mean that a house will want her. Maybe she didn't click with the girls she met. Many reasons why a girl is released, sometimes it's sheer numbers...maybe we liked her, but we liked others more. Think of when you meet people - sometimes the person you like best isn't the most impressive in the way you're describing or even in general. But you click.
And if you get a bid to a chapter here, you're very lucky. Every house is full of great girls.
