oos legacy rush
by: johndoeI’m a senior in high school thinking about rushing a fraternity if I go to ole miss next year. I’m from Texas and now live in Arkansas. My dad was Sigma Chi at Baylor and my cousin just graduated from UT Austin and was Sigma Chi there. I’m athletic, involved, and am very social and have lots of friends. I’m great at building new relationships and feel that I’m a well rounded, likeable guy. How hard would it be to get a bid from say Sigma Chi at Ole Miss if I am out of state and have legacy (though not from ole miss) and have people that I can get recs from. Just because I’ve heard this is relevant at ole miss and particularly sigma chi might I mention my family is fairly wealthy.

no mention of if you know any actives
if you know a bunch of actives or are you best friends with a few actives then your chances are very good
you'll have a chance being a double legacy but the top frats here want hometown boys. they'll pick a kid from jackson who isn't a legacy but had best friends with actives for years over you.
if your family is involved with ole miss, donates here, parents know alums, comes up to game days, you know some actives then sure.
but if your family doesn't come to games, doesn't know other alums, you don't know any actives and you just happen to have family that were sigma chi else where then your chances are so/so

Unfortunately, I do not know any actives in Sigma Chi at Ole Miss. I know that the top fraternities at ole miss are very selective of their hometown boys but that they do give bids to out of state kids. Would being a double legacy seperate me from some of the other out of state kids (as long as I fit in and get along with the actives of course) that are trying to rush?
