social probation
by: gorebsHi! Which sororities are on social probation and what does that mean? Some people are saying that if a sorority is on social probation they don’t have any events this semester, but others say that they only got a few events taken away and still have some. Also, will they tell us if they are on social probation during rush?

I think it's funny everyone assumes this is a troll.. honestly PNMs are worried about going to a sorority thats on social probation especially if we don't know how long its for. why would i want to go to a house that is getting themselves on probation? if you've gotten yourself on probation once, you'll probably get yourself on probation again and I for sure don't want to be part of a chapter thats always on probation.

A chapter potentially being on social probation for a semester is not something that should even be factored into your decision. That fact is irrelevant, if you would drop a house because they don't have socials for that semester then you probably wouldn't be a good fit for that house in the first place. Actives want girls who are committed to the values and missions of their chapter, and want girls who will be active leaders for the following years to come. Not someone who will only show up to the socials. If your focus is on socials during recruitment I suggest you rethink what being in a sorority is about.

Here is the basic info as it pertains to PNMs and their future experiences: they will NOT experience one moment of a chapter's social probation BECAUSE ALL HOUSES ARE OFF PROBATION ON BID DAY. The probation lasted the month of Sept. and is not intended to affect new members. It's just that simple. I understand girls' concerns if they think this might hurt their first semester experience, but that is not the case. If any PNMs have questions, I honestly encourage them to call or run by the panhell office. They can confirm what I write. Good luck to all this week. If you can relax and try to enjoy some of it (like meeting new people) then you will have a much happier week and outcome. All PNMs are great, vibrant individuals and deserve to find a house that welcomes them. PNMs, please try to weed out the advice from women who seem to care more about themselves and their goals (make their house the most desirable and popular) than the positive experience of your group of PNMs. Many women on this campus with those girls the best.

What? Ask for actual information? That's not how it's done. That would make it harder for the old ladies to pretend to be students.
