what are y'all looking for?
by: PNMSo I am a pnm and I'm rushing this fall at Ole Miss. I had a questions for girls that are already in sororities. What exactly are y'all looking for? Is it girls with good grades? girls who are pretty? or just girls who are connected? And at the end of the day who decides if you are good for the sorority like all the girls in the sorority or just like the leaders like the president and stuff, bc if it is that way whats the point of trying to get to know the girls if all you want is girls who look good on paper and y'all basically already decided who y'all wanted before we even walk in the door. Just wondering thanks

For my sorority, we look for girls who we feel will benefit our chapter. Sometimes that means they are involved and we see potential with ASB or SAA or the numerous other organizations. Sometimes we look for girls who are insanely smart and know will boost our overall GPA. Sometimes it's the girl who is extremely connected and we know will benefit our chapter in the future. And sometimes we see a girl is just downright gorgeous and we have a crush immediately. Also, legacy status plays a huge roll! Also in my sorority, the chapter votes on girls, but ultimately rush team has the final call. Alumni also gets a say but a lot of what they want is not taken into consideration. Hope this helps!!

Some sororities have their lists pretty much made up, but FAR more are excited to meet PNMs and make new friends. Chapters have been preparing for a long time to welcome you. Sororities have different methods of membership selection. In my house we all vote on who we want to invite back. Alumnae help with rush logistics, but they do not vote. The stronger the alumnae presence, the more likely they are to be involved in membership selection. My best advice is to keep your mind open just like you want the chapters to keep an open mind when meeting new PNMs. I wish you a happy rush.
