recs
by: ???Does it hurt you if you only get recs from one or two top houses and not for any others.?
#1 by: Get 'em
Yes it will hurt you to not have a rec for every house. What happens if those one or two houses cut you and your remaining houses don't have a rec for you? They are likely to cut you too, even though they may really like you, because you didn't bother to get recs for them and the other pnm's did. Don't cut your chances out from under yourself; get a rec for each house!

Yes, it will probably hurt you. Maybe you'll be lucky and end up in one of the sororities you got recs for, but as competitive as Ole Miss recruitment is it would be unwise to take that chance. Honestly, it's not a good idea to come to campus with your heart set on one particular sorority. With the reduced quotas for 8 of the 11 sororities even legacies aren't sure they will receive an invitation to their legacy sorority. Get recs to every sorority.

I was a chapter legacy and all those things you mentioned in your original post . I went in to recruitment with my heart set on my legacy house. I was shocked when they released me after the second round. Luckily I had already found another house I felt was my home but I had no rec for that house. One of the actives, now my Big, found an alum from my hometown on Pref Day to do my rec. If she hadn’t I probably would have missed out on being part of my sorority.
Hope it works out for you but I’d get those recs.

You just described most PNM's so nothing you have makes you stand out. In fact, there are PNM's with far more impressive resumes that what you've described.
Variable quota means that even OM legacies are being cut from their legacy house, including Top Tier chapters. Lots of shocked legacies in the last few years when they were cut. And being a legacy has never meant a guaranteed bid given how many legacies go through rush now. It meant something decades ago when there weren't so many (likely when your mom was a member), but not now.
Frankly, with that attitude of entitlement, I wouldn't be surprised if you get cut from your legacy house and then because of your fixation on your legacy house, you're likely to get cut from other houses, especially since you didn't "bother" to get recs. I think you're in for a rough rush.

The real deal is that nothing is promised. I've seen "wow, how did that happen" more than once and I've seen legacies cut fast because of entitlement. Didn't matter if she had inside connections.
The only time I saw a super-entitled PNM legacy get into her legacy house was when her sister was already a member. And even then the sister begged the chapter to pledge her. We voted her in with our noses held.

No, please, please don't waste your precious time getting recs to ANY house except the ones that you already know you want to pledge. Let those chapters that you are not interested know right up front that you are not a good match for them. It will save everybody a lot of time & energy. Let those chapters spend their time on other girls who have better manners and an open mind. Good luck to you...
