ranking houses for wrong reasons
by: SeniorDon’t get me wrong, I love my sorority but when I was a PNM I can’t help but feel like I made a mistake. I ranked 1st a house on pref night because of the tier and not the house that made me feel most at home. I have made some great friends I feel like will last forever in my sorority, but overall I have always felt a disconnect to the majority of my house. I see the girls in the other house and I feel like I would’ve been so much more at home with them, if only I didn’t choose based on the wrong reasons. Of course I will never know if the grass would have been greener on the other side, but please take something like this into consideration when you’re going through recruitment. In the end the tier won’t matter, what you get out of your house will.

I hate these post, and we will see more of them before formal recruitment. These posts are just a passive aggressive way to bash the top houses. Our sororities are big, really big, and it's not possible to 'connect' to every single person in your sorority. You have a circle of friends within your sorority and enjoy the benefit of being a member of a larger organization on campus. You would have no way to know if you would have 'connected' better in another sorority. I understand the underlying message of "don't worry about the ranks" but there is no way you could know if you would have been more at home in a different sorority.
Also how you ranked a house doesn't necessarily mean that house is going to choose you. You can rank a house first and still not get your first choice.
