moving up/down
by: nikkiHow often does it happen that a girl comes in to recruitment as a strong pnm with a house but then drops down on their list? And what determines if a pnm is wanted before recruitment even starts? Recs, activities, resume, legacy, hometown???

legacy. all top houses are picked. they don't know the quota numbers, but they have 75-80 guaranteed ins, then a short list of 40 or so girls and once we are told quota limits, they will pick the strongest. at this stage of the game you should know if you are one of the 75-80 or one of the 40 or if you aren't either.
tbh no one really looks at recs/activities/resume/letters etc. no one reads everyones application, and most applications don't even get read. it's more of a thing we glance over before rush and try to find something in common so we have something to talk about. oh you went to z high school, i went to y high school on the other side of town! or wait you went to Z camp, i also when to that same camp! etc.
there is no such thing as a strong pnm. you could be #1 in your class, 35 ACT, all As, cheer caption, other sports, other leaderships, etc etc but if you don't know anyone here, your a "bottom" tier.

What "welcome" said mostly plus:
"there is no such thing as a strong pnm. you could be #1 in your class, 35 ACT, all As, cheer caption, other sports, other leaderships, etc etc but if you don't know anyone here, your a "bottom" tier."
Consider that statement and what that means about the quality of "bottom tier" girls because let's be real the only thing separating top and bottom tier houses are connections. That's it.
The Ole Miss Greek system is one of the best in the country and that is because EVERY SINGLE HOUSE on this campus is absolutely fantastic.

This responds is not accurate. Yes, there are sororities on this campus that are heavily based on legacy and connections, however NO ONE knows at this 'stage of the game' which sorority will be their home. Even if the Moms have already decided, the ACTIVES still have some say in the process. And, while it may be true that the legacy/connection sororities don't read applications or resumes or rec letters, that is not true of the other sororities that will look at these available items as well as getting to know the students as they come through recruitment.
For half of the sororities on campus going to z or y high school or z camp is not relevant. They will look for future members based on whether they will be a good fit for their sisterhood based on resume, GPA, and meeting them.
And THERE ARE such things as STRONG pnms. Those STRONG pnms may not end up in one of the Mississippi legacy sororities but they will end up in a sorority that will appreciate them.
