here's why there is a variable quota:
by: lolvariable quota works to even out numbers of chapters. kd ddd xo etc. have the higher retention rates, therefore they have the lowest quota because there's a better chance their pledges will stay all 4 years. alpha phi, adpi, theta etc. have a high variable quota because it's more common for girls in those sororities to drop, or pledge as sophomores. the rest are in between.

Why do the Moms keep talking about Variable Quota when they don't know what they are talking about? Retention rates do not determine quota. Quota is set by a combination of the Active membership numbers and the number of PNMs who continue through recruitment. Not sure why Variable Quota seems to be a major point of interest for the Moms.

Let me break it down for you:
If DDD has a chapter of 300 and pledge 100 members, then now they have 400. They have a high retention rate and there is a bigger chance that they will remain at 400 throughout the year.
If Theta has 300 members and pledge 150 they now have 450. They have a lower retention rate and there's a bigger chance that 50 will drop or transfer, at the end of the year they will have 400.
Because MORE thetas are likely to drop. THIS IS ALSO JUST AN EXAMPLE. This isn't meant to be rude in ANY way, it is just how the numbers look by the end of the year. Which is why panhel chooses certain sororities to have certain quotas.
IT IS to even out the numbers. This is how and why.
