here's why there is a variable quota:

by: lol

variable quota works to even out numbers of chapters. kd ddd xo etc. have the higher retention rates, therefore they have the lowest quota because there's a better chance their pledges will stay all 4 years. alpha phi, adpi, theta etc. have a high variable quota because it's more common for girls in those sororities to drop, or pledge as sophomores. the rest are in between.

No, it is not about retention rates. Please stop.

Let me break it down for you:

If DDD has a chapter of 300 and pledge 100 members, then now they have 400. They have a high retention rate and there is a bigger chance that they will remain at 400 throughout the year.

If Theta has 300 members and pledge 150 they now have 450. They have a lower retention rate and there's a bigger chance that 50 will drop or transfer, at the end of the year they will have 400.

Because MORE thetas are likely to drop. THIS IS ALSO JUST AN EXAMPLE. This isn't meant to be rude in ANY way, it is just how the numbers look by the end of the year. Which is why panhel chooses certain sororities to have certain quotas.

IT IS to even out the numbers. This is how and why.

You can break down all day long and try to explain your logic - but it doesn't change the fact that retention rates are not used to determine quota.

Why do the Moms keep talking about Variable Quota when they don't know what they are talking about? Retention rates do not determine quota. Quota is set by a combination of the Active membership numbers and the number of PNMs who continue through recruitment. Not sure why Variable Quota seems to be a major point of interest for the Moms.

^^^^^^^ @Variable Quota:
So the OP is right? Because if it's part based off of 'active membership numbers' that would basically refer to their retention rate.... because of how many members they actively have.... bc others have dropped or transferred....

Because they are trying to explain to themselves how it's possible that Susie Colorado possibly got into the same sorority as their precious Mississippi baby girl.

@??. Of course retention rates affect membership rates - but you can not predict future retention rates which is what several of these Moms are trying to say is influencing the quotas. The actual retention rates for all the sororitys are surprising closer than people realize. It was the recruitment rates that had to be adjusted.

I think it's more a case of the old 'top tier' Moms terrified that variable quota is going to take away the only thing they ever had going for them - their status of being a member of XYZ top tier.
